Donald Trump, Malcolm Turnbull phone call: What now for US-Australia relations, refugees?

Ubi bene ibi patria
" DONALD Trump reportedly blasting Malcolm Turnbull before abruptly hanging up on him showed there would be no more “mates rates” between the two countries.

Mr Turnbull later denied the exchange ended in a bad way: “The report that the President hung up is not correct, the call ended courteously.”

The ensuing fallout from the 25-minute phone call also indicates the refugee deal between Australia and the US hangs in the balance.

That is the view of Dougal Robinson, research fellow at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, who was commenting on the implications of the tense call between the two leaders.
As revealed by the Washington Post, the US President reportedly blasted Mr Turnbull during their conversation which took place last Saturday saying “this was the worst call by far”.

Angered at having to honour the refugee deal with Australia brokered by Barack Obama, Mr Trump blew up at Mr Turnbull over the agreement, complaining that he was “going to get killed” politically.

Mr Robinson said the release of such an exchange between two staunch allies was unprecedented.
“This (exchange) shows there will be no more mates rates in Australia’s dealings with Washington,” Mr Robinson said. "

Trump is right. This deal sucks. We take a thousand Muslim refugees that Australia turned down, and didn't know what to do with and what do we get out of it except a thousand people we will subsidize to the tune of millions of dollars.
I cannot blame Australia, for wanting to get rid of these a-holes,but we sure got the dirty end of that stick, thanks to Obama.

Only another Muslim would have made a deal like this.

More lying "press". They say the conversation was combative and Trump hung up on Turnbull; Turnbull says that's not true; press reports it anyway.

TURNBULL WON’T REVEAL DETAILS

Malcolm Turnbull has refused to go into details of his discussion with President Trump on Sunday morning but denied one aspect of the reports this afternoon.

“The report that the president hung up is not correct, the call ended courteously,” he told 2GB radio this afternoon.

He backed this statement up during an interview with 3AW radio, saying he was “disappointed” about the leak but some information had not been accurate.

“It was a 25-minute call, it covered a number of issues but the bulk of the time was spent on the refugee resettlement deal,” he said.

The Prime Minister also responded to President Trump’s tweet, saying the facts were President Trump had given an assurance during their conversation that the deal would go ahead, White House press secretary Sean Spicer confirmed that in a briefing on Wednesday and the US embassy in Canberra reconfirmed it this afternoon.

“I do stand up for Australia but I can assure you the call was courteous,” Mr Turnbull said.

He said the deal had always proceeded on the basis that the United States would do security checks on any individual that would be resettled in the US, as was their right.

So in reality Trump told Turnbull that he would do the deal as Obama planned it, but told him he thought it was a sh1tty deal.

I agree with Trump 100%.
