SOMD Hiking group

I've been getting my gear ready for spring and was day dreaming about where I was going to be hiking in the upcoming months. Several of my friends are asking hiking related questions and I've realized that there's not a local group that I've found dedicated to hiking. There are a few on meet up but all of them are pretty far away. I decided to make an open Facebook group to share information and to post different local hikes and let those who might be interested know when we're planning to hike so that they can join us and not have to go it alone. :yay:

I was cleaning up recently and threw out a guide about all the hiking trails in MD. Picked it up at the Maryland Welcome Center down by the Nice bridge. If you happen to pass by there, might be worth a stop.

St. Mary's lake has a nice loop trail that is about 7.5 miles. It's fairly flat but it gives you a nice place to hike and stay if form.

Seems like something SO and I would be interested in. But we probably couldn't keep up with serious hikers. Maybe you could break down the trips so that some are focused on taking it easy and enjoying the scenery, and others might be for more competitive types who would leave us in the dust.

I do St. Mary's lake frequently. It's a good place to test pack weight and new boots etc., plus it's convenient to get too.

Absolutely! Everyone hikes their own hike.

I’m thinking of just posting the when and where’s...

It’s always reassuring having folks you know on a trail just in case something goes wrong. :yay:

Finishing last
You can blame Bann. She told me about this tread and I figured I would come and have a look. Since I have been spending some of my time the last couple years re-kindling my hiking/backpacking interest. Looks like some great local info for hiking. I am going to have to try a few trails out to shake down some of my new gear and load-out. I have plans to check out Green ridge state forest this year as well as finishing the MD section of the AT trail one weekend.
Thanks for all the info.

You should join my Venturing Crew (co-ed boy scouts, 14-21) as an Associate Advisor. We're starting the prep to go back to Philmont Scout Reservation in August 2018. We went this summer and had a blast and can't wait to go back. We're going to be doing monthly training hikes/events.
