Chuck Todd Whines for Republicans to ‘Take Off Your Partisan Hats’ to Defend Press, Gets Hammered

Thursday, after President Trump's impromptu press conference during which he lambasted the mainstream press for their often adversarial coverage of him, NBC's Chuck Todd tweeted:

Press bashing may feel good to folks but when it's done by people in power, it's corrosive. Take off your partisan hats for a second

— Chuck Todd (@chucktodd) February 16, 2017

Todd brings up an interesting philosophical question. Is the president allowed to hit back? If the press treats a president fairly, perhaps such aggression wouldn't be warranted. However, the mainstream press has not treated President Trump fairly.

No one is entitled to a free pass.

And this one is decades overdue.

I see you and the crew still can't think beyond 0 and 1.

Is the Pres allowed to hit back? Sure.

Does the current Pres have a viable claim to hit back? Doubtful...and certainly not as he has done. In his tiny little mind (and those of you all), the "press" has now been elevated to "enemy of the people". And why would this be? Because the horrid people are doing three things "The Donald" can't stand. 1. the are reporting the words The Donald utters. 2. They are questioning "The Donald". 3. They dare printing critical portrayals of his administration...an administration that, by all reasonable standards, is a CF.

The more important question...the one none of you can think to consider...is: What does this media bashing get "The Donald"? Sure, he lathers up the minority of Americans who will support him no matter what he does (like those on here). Yet, his overall poll numbers continue to drop. Recent polls are coming in below 40%. He's only been in office for a month and 60% of Americans don't approve. Of course Ds hate him. The more important Independents (the ones who actually cast the deciding votes) have an even lower approval rating.

So while you all bark in Pavlovian unison to whenever and at whatever The Donald tells you to...the world will continue to pass you by.

What does Trump gain by belittling the Press.
First what does he lose.
They hate him anyway he may as well have fun calling them the Pieces of garbage they are.

You ought to appreciate the humor in you criticizing others for Pavlovian responses while in the middle of giving a Pavlovian response.

Why would independents dis-approve a few short months after casting the deciding votes for him? Are they even actually disapproving if we're using the same polls that said they weren't going to vote for him in the first place?

Assuming they're actually making electoral judgments right now, not even a month in, what are they dis-approving of? a "Muslim" ban that isn't? Are they giving Pavlovian responses to what the media is telling them? Pavlovian responses to the marches? Are they disapproving, at him, at how slow his cabinet is even getting approved?

If this is all reflex at a distance, a reasonable argument, if you see some aspects of it, how is it that you are impervious to such conditioning? Or that independents are impervious to such conditioning? Do you have an argument, a basis to claim that only Trump voters are susceptible to conditioned reflex? Did you miss the marches? Did you miss the polls, the election?

Pavlovian response is a fascinating topic for discussion in our politics. It would be even more interesting if you cared to explain how you've identified how it affects some and not others. Genetic, perhaps? Maybe it's an environmental condition? Maybe we're all susceptible and can readily see it in others but have a hard time seeing it in ourselves?

A test. I'm gonna say a series of words and you tell me the first three things that come to your mind. Ready?

Thanks.

The polls are not the point, as we learned back in November. The point is how we think and react and how our masters, be it trump or Obama or 'the press' dance us around in chains of our own making.

The press is like every classic bully movie ever made. They're a cliche with their whining and crying when their longtime target fights back.
