#Resistance - Invisible Guide: Reusing The T-Party Playbook

It’s an approach Todd cribbed from a political memo that began making the rounds on social media in December. Known as the Indivisible Guide, it was drafted by a handful of former Capitol Hill staffers as a primer for liberals looking to influence Congress and push back against Trump. The message: Tea Party tactics work. In fact, they may prove even more potent in the Trump era than they did under Obama. With his squabbling over crowd-size at his inauguration and media coverage just a day into his presidency, Trump exposed perhaps his biggest political vulnerability: his intense sensitivity to public opinion. More than a Senate filibuster or other legislative maneuvering, this may be the progressive movement’s most potent source of leverage. That’s the lesson the so-called #Resistance is taking away from these early weeks of the Trump presidency.

A self-described political junkie, Todd first came across the Indivisible Guide when former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich shared it on Twitter, in the days after Trump’s victory. But it wasn’t until inauguration day “that I really felt like something needed to be done,” he says. Days later, Todd set up a Facebook page for a new group, Indivisible Roseville, and began posting news and events criticizing the New York real estate mogul. It now has more than 350 followers. And it’s one of 10 similar groups in a 10-mile radius of Todd.

The protest at McClintock’s town hall, planned in conjunction with other local groups and a handful of progressive organizations, was their first foray into activism. It’s just a beginning, he says. Indivisible Roseville aims to be a constant presence at the Republican congressman’s events, per the instructions of the Indivisible Guide, including holding “Action Tuesdays” protests at McClintock’s local office each week.

HOW THE #RESISTANCE IS TAPPING THE TEA PARTY'S PLAYBOOK

The TEA party had an issue, a legitimate, easy to understand issue to coalesce around; whether or not it was proper for the federal gummint, our gummint, to demand we buy a product and/or service.

What is the equivalent of this in terms of opposing Trump??? His alleged sensitivity to public opinion? His as yet undefined alternative to the ACA? Again, the TEA opposed something, something real; the individual mandate.

Larry, you are forgetting the media multiplier. Just as with the Tea Party, where it acted as a divisor, constantly working to misrepresent what the Tea Party's issue was, and coloring reports to ensure the Tea Party everywhere was painted as a bunch of kooks, this group will be given every benefit a friendly media can bestow. Glowing reports, sympathetic softball interviews, positive imagery.

I'm not forgetting it. I'm sick of it. All the right does is whine about the media. It talks a big game, gonna do this, gonna do that and then, every time it has the chance, it doesn't do jack ####. Why? The media! :bawl:
In case you missed it, the TEA party worked. They lead the way to an enormous wipe out of D's in 2010. Then, the GOP dicked around and blamed the press. So, the people spoke AGAIN in '14 and gave them the Senate. And the GOP dicked around again. And whined about the press.

Now, the GOP has the House and the Senate and the WH and most state legislatures and we STILL have the ACA and STILL whine about the press. The simple, obvious fact is that the GOP has ZERO intentions of ever getting rid of the ACA but people who want it gone will still support them and still blame the press.

In the words of Grant; stop worrying about what Lee is going to do to you and start worrying about what you are going to do to him. "Him" is the GOP. That's why people voted for Trump because they know he's upsetting to the D's, the press and, AND the GOP.

Although I do acknowledge their argument, of a left wing fifth column press, it does seem as though the GOP use the media as their "Go to" far too often, much as the Left does with the "Racism and White Supremacy" cry.

It's become a part of both their respective comfort zones.

That only happens because we, the people, are willing to accept it as an excuse. And that's part and parcel to how our minds work as per your link about confirmation bias and the 'backfire' effect as well as ToJo's unintentional expose on Pavlovian response.

Politicians, like lawyers, KNOW the human psyche and how our minds work. How we behave in masses, what we say we believe v. what we actually do or how we vote. We SAY we want term limits but what we mean is we want THEIR guy limited. OURS is hoenst and true and has the best intentions.

There is no 5th column. If so, they HANDED the WH to a guy they are supposed to be against. The press is a business and it's interests are served just as well, maybe better, with R's in power as it is with D's. It's an absurd claim to argue otherwise. THEY don't go out of business when 'they' lose. They make MORE money. If you, we, spend just a few minutes reading up on it, it is clear as can be that the left has equal and opposite animus against the press; to them, it's too far to the right. And, from their view, clearly, it is.

And that's why it's educational and illustrative to challenge yourself to make the case FOR someone you oppose and the case against someone you support. That does not make someone a supporter. It means they actually understand what they are opposing and are for in it's best, and worst. That is the nuts and bolts of an educated opinion, the ability to hold competing ideas and claims in your mind at the same time without being for, our against, either. Then, and only then, can you, we claim to have made an educated choice.

Agree... With the exception that I DO acknowledge the press as a clear political entity. They handed it to him unintentionally.

They are not the "honorable" profession they claim to be. They clearly have a horse in every race, as evidence by the last 16 years.

The Democrats have issues with them because they don't carry water for them as dutifully as they think they should. ( Except for MSNBC )

I didn't say the Tea Party wasnt effective anyway, just pointed out the reality of the coverage. To hear the press tell it, this Day Without Immigrants was the Second Coming. I dont worry about it, I do acknowledge it.
