On line drivers license renewal

Just received a MVA e-mail about my license expiring in June.
It says I have the option to renew on-line.
I'm curious how they handle the picture update.

My guy just did his renewal online. They used his picture from the expiring license. Unless your appearance has changed drastically, your previous photo will do just fine. Maybe the next time around in 8 yrs, he'll get notice he has to physically go to the DMV vs. online renewal again so they can get a new pic after 16 yrs.

Did he submit an eye doctor's report for the eye exam part?

You are required to have a vision screening before you renew. If your vision provider submitted your vision screening electronically, you are eligible to renew online or at an MVA Kiosk.

I wonder what happens if you go for your renewal and you fail the vision test because you didn't realize your eyes were getting old...

"The MVA staff will screen your vision when you apply for, or renew a license. If you fail to meet the requirements or the MVA has questions about your vision, you may be referred to a vision specialist before the license is issued. If you don't want the MVA to screen your vision, please give this form to your vision specialist for completion, then present the completed form to the MVA when you apply for your license."

Answered my own question, dangit...

You have to get a form signed by your eye doc. Because I can't pass the standard Maryland vision test I have to do it every time.

 no? He doesn't wear glasses.... When I got my MD license (in person) 2/3 yrs ago, I never went through a vision test. I was switching from an out-of-state to a MD license.

Well my "vision provider" Maryland Eye Associates doesn't do the electronic submission thing.
So it's off to Loveville per usual.

You sure? I did the same thing and that's when I discovered that I couldn't pass the MD vision test.

I'm not sure why your DL renewal is so complex. I just had mine renewed 1 year ago. They mailed me a new DL. I didn't step foot into the DMV. They used my same picture?

Positive! I don't doubt there's a required vision test every time though. Just didn't realize there was as I've yet to have one since I first obtained my license at 16 1/2. Even when I renewed when I turned 21...did not have a vision test. That was both in CT. When I moved to MD, I think it was around the time my license would be expiring anyways, so I went to Loveville and registered in the state of MD. Again, didn't have a vision test. Maybe it's a coincidence that Loveville forgot to test me and my guy didn't have to submit anything. He gets all his medical through the VA so maybe something automatic was done there without him realizing  I think I'm up for another renewal in a year or two so I guess I'll find out then.

Whether you were lucky or not; it's better to take the form for you vision test to an optometrist; Wal*Mart etc. to get it filled out.
Yeah, it might cost you a couple bucks for an office visit with a doctor; vice a non-doctor @ DMV; but you won't have to deal with anybody who thinks they know how to administer an eye exam. Those machines/operators are not infallible. I know whereof I speak.

Does the DashCam get you a discount?
