Thread: Tragedy/bullying in Schools

A bully was looking for a fight and often targeted "unpopular" people because they didn't want to fall out with the cool kids, and obviously they don't pick fights where they are liable to get their ass whooped.

If a bully pushed you into a locker it wasn't to hurt your feelings, it was to provoke you to take a swing at him and give him an excuse to knock your teeth in.

Blame whatever you want, abusive family, drugs, or just a mean streak (no puppies to torture).

But maybe I just grew up in a tougher area, and the sissified bullies you talk about that run away at the first sign of resistance are really the majority. I doubt it though.

And you can continue to tell me about how you taught your son the 1 finger Okinawan pirate death punch and therefore he never gets bullied, but that doesn't really invalidate my life observation. It might just mean you and your son are the bullies (waiting for someone to tease you about the color of your shoes so you can punch them in the throat).
You need to work on your reading skills, I didn't teach my son to fight. I sent him to Karate class in Charlotte Hall. If you knew anything about Martial Arts you would know the last thing on the agenda is actually fighting. Walk away if possible.
I grew up in the pussified town of Bethesda, with a father that was a career Navy Frogman,
I also boxed at the YMCA on Old Georgetown Rd and entered the Marines in 76.
I'm a combat veteran. I spent a few after that working in central Africa.
I'm pretty well traveled and have had my share of wins and losses.
I do believe I know what a bully is.
And at 58, I'm still not afraid of them.
Then again mostly I bully small stature gay men and lesbians.. Right?

I believe your one of those that silly karate stuff... I would suggest you head up to Tolsons tonight and spar with one of those 12 to 16 year old girls and see how well it works out for you.

And that is exactly the crap that occurred often enough at Spring Ridge that we pulled our son out and paid for his attendance at private school. At least twice, he was literally forced to resort to force to defend himself, something he did ably enough because he's always been a tall lanky kid, if a bit on the skinny side. But fighting back made him a perpetual target too.

After it became clear that the school administration was going to do nothing effective about the "gang-like" situation that required our son to constantly be looking to defend himself, we got him out.

Describing to us how tough you are, and all the martial arts you know, somehow means you know what a bully is? Your deluded, man. Clearly you were the bully and have passed it on to the next generation.

You went out of your way to describe in graphic detail how your son assaulted the "bully" multiple times without ever mentioning how your son himself was bullied. Sounds like your little Kobra Kai child has been anxiously waiting for his Daniel "the bully" to do something like sprinkle him with a hose so he can self-defense the crap out of him.

And all of that "defense only" martial arts bullshet is a result 60s and 70s mysticism and romanticism by westerners. Modern Karate (we're not talking about Buddhist Wushu here) wasn't invented by monks to train their spirit and keep in shape and if you really believe that, then you're a bigger idiot than I gave you credit for. It was specifically developed as means of providing skill in unarmed combat for the non-elites who were not allowed to own weapons. It was promoted specifically for MILITARISTIC use, especially in the run up to WWII. Remember that one, where the good ole Japanese only defended and never attacked.

And suggesting that a 62 year old man go fight a 16 year old girl to learn perspective about bullying again calls into doubt your judgment.

We had problems with our son being bullied in Elementary School by another boy, the problem was his single mom of three kids worked for the school system and there was not alot they would do about the constantly repeating problem.
I started taking my son to Steve Tolsons Karate, it took about a year or so and my son finely got tired of being pushed, shoved and triped in the hallways at school.
It was over in a few quick seconds.
Next was in early HS, same bull$hit different bully, my kid twisted him up in the cafeteria after weeks of being hassled.
Both times warranted a meeting with the school principal and that was about it.
The zero tolerance bull$hit doesn't always mean zero tolerance. Both times threats were made to expell my kid. We worked it out quickly when the school found out I had everything documented.
I highly recommend Steve Tolsons Okinawan Karate. 10 or 11 years now and still money well spent.

Your reading skills are poor and need improvement. Did you all not have RIF in school as a kid... You know Reading is fundamental.
    Thanks for playing Clem.

Where do they go to school now.. at what expense??
Where I went to school the only kids who went to the Catholic school were the ones kicked out of the public school system. Their parents footed the bill, however it wasn't nearly as expensive as a private school is here.

Usually the most effective way is to beat the hell out of the parent, tell them if it doesn't stop they will get another one. Most will take care of their kid after that.

Back when I was in elementary school it was still okay for schools to paddle as punishment. Nowadays it is considered assault for a teacher to grab a student by the arm.

The problem is that teachers AND the rest of the administration in each school no longer have authority to nip situations in the bud. Students know this and use it to their advantage.
Imagine how much better America would be if you would simply don a pair a pants before sitting down at your Playskool My First 'Puter.
