Emotional Minds

Have you ever run across people who insist upon maintaining a previously adopted position rather than to allow rightly divided doctrine to be the determining factor of the position that they take. Then there are people even more resistant to Pauline truth will be those who allow emotion to trump doctrine. A previously held position and emotion are the two things that trump doctrine, and emotion becomes a part of those who have held on to previously adopted position. So, in your discussion with people, when you see that previously held position or emotion is more important than rightly divided doctrine, be careful not to allow the manner in which you conduct your ambassadorship to slide to the level of strive. When rightly divided truth is rejected, you can be certain that a position is being governed by emotion. Emotion trumps doctrine in most people’s minds and religion is about working on the emotional minds of people. So, be careful not to strive or to be contentious with those who are emotionally driven rather than doctrinally directed.

When we are dealing with somebody, let go of the negativity we hear, let go of the fact that they won’t listen. Store up the good about that person and be kind and meek, gentle and patient, and loving when we present Paul’s good news message. These are all things that help others lower the resistance wall called ‘pride’ whether that be in a previously held position or that which has been emotionally driven in their minds. (Colossians 3:12) For we walk by faith, not by sight is a clear statement from Paul how we walk today. For those who take God and Paul at their word 2 Corinthians 5:7 is sufficient. We stop looking for things. For those who allow emotion to trump doctrine, no number of verses would be sufficient. Paul warned Timothy in 1 Timothy chapter 3 that this would be the character of the religiously minded as this age of grace winds to a close.
