Oops! MSNBC Reveals Trump Paid 25% Tax Rate – Socialist Bernie Sanders Paid 13% Tax Rate

MSNBC released Donald Trump’s 2005 tax forms tonight.

Trump paid a higher rate than Socialist Bernie Sanders.

Businessman Donald Trump paid $38 million on $150 million in income in 2005 or roughly 25% of his earned income.

Socialist Bernie Sanders paid only 13% according to his 2014 tax returns.

Bernie believes Trump should have paid more, and he himself should have paid less (percentage-wise), and that would have been "fair", because, as our last president told us, at some point you have made "enough" money. The government should get the "more than enough" they think you've made.

To be fair, without being forced to pay the AMT tax (something Trump wants to get rid of), Trump would have paid about 4.5% in taxes.

I'm not sure it's fair to compare 2005 taxes to 2014 taxes. Someone who is far smarter than I am in tax codes between those two years could probably better answer that.

If Bernie paid 13% legally and Trump paid 25% legally, I fail to see the issue. If someone has a problem with this, then it's not a problem with the individual, it's a problem with he system. But demanding a "rich" person pay a higher percentage is somehow considered "fair" is a ridiculous notion. To me if you start playing games to make things "fair" then you have to look across the board and make everyone pay their "fair" share. After all, wouldn't "fair" apply to everyone?

That has what to do with anything? The AMT has been in place in its present form since 1982. What prompted you to incorrectly insert the word "forced"? Personal bias again?

FAIR to a Progressive means EVIL [anyone not progressive] Rich [Koch Bros, Trump, Wal-mart Owners] pays confiscatory level tax rates
- ya know 50% or higher

while Progressive Leaders, Sport Idols, Hollywood Types and Rich People [Soros, Buffet, Kerry-Heniz, Clinton etal] supporting pet progressive projects / agenda get to keep their money

Without being forced to pay taxes, would Bernie have paid at all? Trump? You?

You're suggesting Trump and Bernie did what they could to keep their tax payments as low as legally possible, but followed the law. Rommey had it right.

Without the AMT, he'd have paid about 4.5% in taxes. I thought that was pretty clear in my post. I sure as hell wouldn't mind paying 4.5%.

How was I incorrect in using that term? Are you saying being subject to the AMT is voluntary?

Here's what the IRS has to say about it:
The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) is basically an income tax system that runs parallel to the regular income tax. For taxpayers with higher incomes, be aware that the AMT may apply to you.

Certain tax benefits (e.g., credits, deductions, and exclusions from income) can significantly reduce your tax liability. Therefore, the Federal government created the AMT in the 1960’s to ensure that individuals and corporations pay at least a minimum amount of tax.

With the AMT, those who receive certain tax benefits are limited by how much they can reduce their tax obligations. The AMT essentially places a ceiling on those benefits – if your tax benefits reduce your total tax liability below the AMT limit, you are required to pay the higher Alternative Minimum Tax amount.

Not at all. All of us try to reduce our taxes and I completely agree with his proposal to eliminate the AMT.
