What Crime Would a ‘Special Prosecutor’ Prosecute?

So what is the crime? What is the federal criminal offense that could be proved in a court of law under governing law and evidentiary rules?

“Collusion” – the word so tirelessly invoked – is not a crime. It is used pejoratively, but it is just a word to describe concerted activity. Concerted activity can be (and usually is) completely legal. Lots of unsavory activity in which people jointly participate is legal, even if we frown on it. In order to be illegal, concerted activity must rise to the level of conspiracy.

A conspiracy is an agreement to commit a crime. Not to do something indecorous or slimey; it must be something that is actually against the law, something that violates a penal statute. In the crim-law biz, the crime that conspirators agree to try to accomplish is known as “the object of the conspiracy.” If the object is not against the law, there is no conspiracy – no matter how much “collusion” there is.

So, in the ballyhooed “Russia investigation,” what is the object of the purported conspiracy? Notice that although Senator Schumer casually asserts that “a serious offense” has been committed, he does not tell us what that offense is.

That’s because there isn’t one.

What is it with the left and their total lack of personal character or morals. Harry Reid used to do exactly the same crap all the time; throw around completely baseless allegations and never pay the price for doing it.

OR its classified. They have been holding a bunch of closed door hearings and there are several investigations ongoing. Who knows how valid the allegations are, they could be all lies or they could be just the tip of the iceburg. one thing is for sure, Flynn has commited some crimes related to his not properly disclosing his foreign connections. unless you want more of the same #### you bitched about for the last 8 years you should support an independant investigation. Why would you not want to know if our leadership at the highest levels was in bed with another country?

I will support a Trump investigation into Russians ties, when you support an investigation into the Russian money flowing into Hillary's foundation while they were buying our uranium from her

you better call your congresman because i support rooting out any malfeseance. I carry no water for the clintons and have NEVER supported either.
Isn't that exactly what the FBI is conducting?
How can an agency that serves under the president conduct an independant invstigation of the executive branch? Particularly after the president just fired the head of the FBI 2 days before he was scheduled to testify about that investigation?

Special prosecutor

"A special prosecutor generally is a lawyer from outside the government appointed by an attorney general or, in the United States, by Congress to investigate a government official for misconduct while in office. A reasoning for such an appointment is that the governmental branch or agency may have political connections to those it might be asked to investigate."

What would prevent them from doing so? You don't trust the personnel in the FBI to simply do their job? You know..like they did during the Watergate period.

really mo?
Cox became internationally famous when under mounting pressure and charges of corruption against persons closely associated with Richard Nixon, Attorney General nominee Elliot Richardson was forced to appoint him (on account of his reputation for integrity and his independence from the president) as Special Prosecutor to oversee the federal criminal investigation into the Watergate burglary and other related crimes, corrupt activities and wrongdoings that became popularly known as the Watergate scandal. His investigation led him directly to the president himself, and he had a dramatic confrontation with Nixon when he subpoenaed the tapes the president had secretly recorded of his Oval Office conversations. When Cox refused a direct order from the White House to seek no further tapes or presidential materials, Nixon fired him in an incident that became known as the Saturday Night Massacre.

Really, Mo. Who was it that started the entire investigation and followed it where ever it lead? Hmm..who was it? History tells us they did a pretty thorough job, too. Then, after it was becoming increasingly clear that multiple crimes had probably been committed, Cox was appointed.

See how that worked?

See, this is the main question - in bed doing what? We've heard a lot of innuendo, that when boiled down means nothing. What is the crime? What is the allegation of crime?

With Watergate, there was, "hey, someone broke into the DNC HQ and stole stuff." Got it, there was a crime, and that crime led to information about potentially other crimes (none of which were ever actually adjudicated).

What is the crime that is alleged to have been committed here?

bwhahahahaha

if the FBI was so capable of investigating the executive branch why did they need to appoint a special prosecutor?
Guess what, it is becoming increasingly clear that some crimes have probably been committed. :yay:

I have to agree with you after I saw the investigation that was made into Hillary Clinton after she was absolved of all blame under orders from the President.
And by the man who was fired.

It is? What crimes are those? Be specific, mo.

Meanwhile, even CBS reports:

Even without Comey, the Russian investigation continues at a heightened pace. "FBI Agents are good at keeping their heads down and taking the evidence where it leads," the source said. I asked, "Even now" are they working at this? The response came back: "Yes, they are now."
