Have just received a phone call, purporting to be from Fraternal Order of Police, collecting for Officers killed in line of duty. After coming off phone googled said 'order' and it would appear to be a scam. Be warned!

I know both the President and Vice President of our local FOP in St Mary's County. I'll check with them tomorrow.

You don't need to check. This scam has been going on for years in almost every area of the country.

Co-worker had to take over the affairs of his 85 yr old uncle who was suffering from dementia. Going through his checking account statement, he found 15 checks (totaling over $2k) over the previous month written out to different police/fire charities..ie..benevolent order of, friends of blahblah, etc..all different names but every one of the checks were deposited in the same bank account in Arizona. No doubt it was a scam..and the DC police(the uncle lived in DC) and Arizona State police just pointed at each other and said it wasn't their problem. Each of them gave no help whatsoever. That's why these things don't go away.
