Deuteronomy 11:Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. 2 Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the Lord your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; 3 the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; 4 what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea[a] as they were pursuing you, and how the Lord brought lasting ruin on them. 5 It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the wilderness until you arrived at this place, 6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them. 7 But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done.

a. Deuteronomy 11:4 Or the Sea of Reeds

I got the quote from the blueletterbible.org site this morning.

Moses called Israel to remember what God did in their history.

Most of history - both official and personal - is simply concerned with what man has done. But God wants us to look at history and see what He did. We learn far more, and are far more benefited, by looking at what God has done, rather than looking at what man has done.

This is from the easy English site.

Moses was talking to all the Israelites. Many of them were less than 20 years old when they left Egypt. There were also the children who had been born in the desert. Moses reminded them all how they had left Egypt. Often they had not obeyed God. So Moses reminded them what had happened as a result. Dathan, Abiram and Korah opposed Moses. Numbers chapter 16 describes what happened to those 3 men. When they refused God’s leader, they refused God himself.

Great land - rain when you need rain - a great life...if you obey God's law when you possess the land over Jordan - that's the positive part of the overview of chapter 11. But what if you disobey? Well...remember back in Exodus 14 how much trouble the Egyptians had crossing the Red Sea? And you must also recall in Numbers 16:20-50 how Dathan and Abiram were swallowed up in the earth. Just worship God exclusively and you'll be blessed. Fall away from God and...well...you don't even want God at odds with you! That's the negative part of chapter 11. Then we have the emphasis of 18-21 mentioned again. HERE'S HOW YOU RAISE CHILDREN - REPETITION, REPETITION, REPETITION on the important things. It's the Shema from Deuteronomy 6:4-9[/URL restated all over again with the same emphasis. If you need a refresher on the place of the Shema in daily Jewish life, do make certain to read the commentary on [URL="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+6%3A4-9&version=NIV"]Deuteronomy 6:4-9 .

I'm feeling really convicted this morning.....
