Former FBI agent lays out why Mueller needs to recuse himself as special counsel

Before his retirement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2003, John Legato served under Robert Mueller, who is currently the special counsel assigned by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to investigate President Donald Trump.

Initially asked to see if Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election, he is now rumored to be looking into reasons why the president fired James Comey from his position as director of the FBI. Some believe Trump did so to protect his former national security adviser Gen. Michael Flynn.

Ligato said on “The Chris Salcedo Show” today that the investigation is illegitimate for a number of reasons. The idea that Trump obstructed justice comes only from rumors and anonymous sources, and Mueller should recuse himself because of his friendship with Comey.

He admitted Mueller made the FBI less independent than it was when he started. He required agents to obtain permission from the Department of Justice to proceed with some investigations. Before Mueller, cases were self generated.
