Deuteronomy 12:29 The Lord your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land, 30 and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? They burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods: This referred to the practice of Molech worship, where Canaanites offered up their children by placing them alive on a burning hot metal statue of Molech, while drum beats drowned out the screams of the tortured infants.

- At the least, Solomon sanctioned the worship of Molech, building a temple to this idol (1 Kings 11:7).
- King Ahaz of Judah gave his own son to Molech (2 Kings 16:3).
- One of the great crimes of the northern tribes of Israel was their worship of Molech, leading to the Assyrian captivity (2 Kings 17:17).
- King Manasseh of Judah gave his son to Molech (2 Kings 21:6).
- Up to the days of King Josiah of Judah, Molech worship continued, because he destroyed a place of worship to that idol (2 Kings 23:10).
This morning there was an update to the news. A woman was found guilty of murdering her little cousin. The child took a popsicle.... the woman locked her in a cooler and left her there.... the child died.....
In Lusby a few years ago a child escaped from an abusive home. When the police investigated they found a dead child in the freezer. It was soon reported that the child had been put in the freezer before the parent moved into the neighborhood.
These ruthless people had nothing on the crowd that gathered to worship Molech back in the days of Moses. This was a worship service they were attending..... They heated up a metal object until it glowed red hot.... then they laid their child on it and played music to cover the screams of the baby.
Humans are dysfunctional, vile creatures that do things that we just cannot wrap our brains around. How can people do that? God warned the Israelites not to have anything to do with those people or the place where the Canaanites did these things. God said He would clear those people out of the Promised Land and He told the Israelites to raze their places of worship.
