Deuteronomy 28 Eating Babies

Deuteronomy 28:53 Because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you. 54 Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, 55 and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. 56 The most gentle and sensitive woman among you—so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot—will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For in her dire need she intends to eat them secretly because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of your cities.

This is a horrific prophecy. According to the verses.... humans will not only eat their own young, they'll fight over them..... like ravenous animals.

I found this under GodVine.com.

This was literally fulfilled when Jerusalem was besieged by the Romans; a woman named Mary, of a noble family, driven to distraction by famine, boiled and ate her own child! See a similar case 2 Kings 6:29; and Leviticus 26:29 .

While I agree that this was literally fulfilled.... The story in 2 Kings is about a woman in Samaria. Leviticus is not about an actual event.... it's a prophecy just like this one.

Maybe I need to get back to reality.... What I'm reading is a prophetic curse. The 2+ million people are to be posted atop two mountains. Down in the valley is Shechem.... that's the same town where [Genesis 34] Dinah was raped.... in revenge.... all the men of Shechem were first circumcised and then murdered for the crime.... Back to the mountains.... the Levites were reading these curses and the Israelites were to answer "Amen". Look at a modern day picture of the area.... imagine over 2 million Israelites yelling ..... These people were extreme.... everything that happened to them seens extreme....

How horrible would things have to be for mothers to boil their babies and eat them? How horrible would things have to be for mothers to feast on the afterbirth and then the newborn? The commentary in GodVine for verse 57 is pretty rough.

The people on the mountains back in Deuteronomy 28 were not the type to eat their young. Oh don't get me wrong.... they were capable of eating their young... these are prophetic verses..... they were warned.... they could have avoided it.... these were good people... these were God's Chosen.... all they had to do to avoid this horrific curse was obey God.
