I worked with a guy from DC here in Tampa for years. About 35 years ago he told me, in the early 70's, one of his best buds came down here to visit him. One night dude was not at home when my friend returned from work, and came in much later that evening via a cab. He told my co-worker he met up with an old friend, and left the next day back to DC. Turns out the friend went out, hijacked a car, murdered the dude driving it, and parked it at TIA in the garage. About a week later, the car became suspicious, the police found the body stuffed in the trunk, and traced it back to the "friend". Dude was convicted of murder, and I have no idea where he is now. My buddy retired just before I did, and he still has scars from the police investigation and interrogations he went through that he carries with him mentally.

Strange stuff at airports, for sure.

Bizarre, to say the least. What a mess that would be to clean up.
Mythbusters did an episode about this exact situation. The sealed up a pig in a Corvette for several months and tried to see if they could clean the car where there would be no trace of a decomposed body having been there. They weren't successful even after taking out all the soft goods (carpet, fabric, foam, etc.) and even calling in a specialist in cleaning up crime scenes. They ended up selling it basically for parts.

I'm guessing this truck will meet a similar fate.

Good grief, what a story - your best bud comes to visit you and ends up killing someone.

Hard to believe any car could sit in an airport parking lot for 8 months and no one bothered to check on it.

God bless the USA
Still, the contractor was supposed to check the lots every day. And whoever supervised the contract at the airport authority was supposed to well, audit what the contractor was doing.

What I don't get is that the truck sat there for 8 months; even if a dead body wasn't in it. It seems that is a lack of supervision, maintenance, and competency. It makes no sense. There has to be more to this story. Like there would have been flies surrounding the truck a lot sooner. What a sad story. And, somebody is not doing their job. This whole thing is intolerable, but I am not surprised.

? I park in long-term parking lots all the time. They are huge. I can think of no earthly reason why a vehicle could not simply sit in one for months on end. What would have prompted anyone to "inspect" it?

Becuase that's what the company hired to manage the lot is required to do, keep a list of plates and note ones in place for some time. Do you leave a vehicle in them for more than half a year? Oh, and there's this....

The family even went to SP+, the company that manages the 25,000 parking spots at the airport, and provided info. Security routinely checks the lots, they were told. And still, nothing.

Hey, this guy is missing, here's the tag number....... And the company is required to take a daily inventory of tags....... just lazy.

I had no idea that they did that..seriously. Learn something new every day..my old pappy told me.

We (the company I work for) have as a rule that you don't long-term park more expensively than what airport limo service costs, round trip. So we seldom park for more than 2 weeks.

They get paid when they scan your plates on the way out the gate... They scan them on the way in, and on the way out.

Would still think that they would be interested as a vehicle parked there perpetually makes them no money.

I know where to dump a vehicle I no longer want now.

Why?? They tally their money when the vehicles leave.. Heck..they would be ecstatic when one stays inside the lot for a year.
