Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8 – Patuxent River Appreciation Days
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Celebrate the Patuxent River with FREE fun for all members of the family! Enjoy an Arts and Crafts Fair, live music on two stages, boat rides, toy boat building, great food, and FREE admission. Tuesday, October 10, Thursday, October 12, and Wednesday, October 18 - Sea Squirts
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 – 11:30 a.m. Theme is Animal Camouflage. Free drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years and their caregivers. Space is limited.


Friday, October 13 – Maritime Performance Series presents Harpeth Rising
7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Three classically trained musicians playing original music, as intricately arranged as a string quartet, lyrically rooted in the singer/songwriter tradition, and wrapped in three-part vocal harmonies reminiscent of both Appalachia and Medieval Europe. Harpeth Rising uses cello, violin, and banjo to fuse folk, newgrass, rock and classical into something organically unique. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine for sale. Thursday, October 19 – “A Day at Chesapeake Beach Park, 1946 to 1972”
7 – 8 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Presented by Joan Kilmon as part of the “At the Water’s Edge” Lecture Series. Enjoy hearing about the heyday of the Chesapeake Beach amusement park when people flocked by train and steamboat to stroll the mile-long pier and enjoy the beach. The series is sponsored by Bayside History Museum, Calvert Library, Calvert Marine Museum, and Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum.


Friday, October 20 – Museum Members Save 20%
10 – 11 a.m. Museum members are invited for coffee and donuts and a FREE Swedish dish cloth. Members enjoy a 20% discount in the Museum Store all day long today and on the 20th of every month!


Friday, October 20 – Dino Daze
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Be a paleontologist for the day! Ongoing activities include digging for dinosaur bones in the Discovery Room sand box, a scavenger hunt filled with fun dinosaur facts that ends with participants cracking a dinosaur egg, and making a dino hat. Scheduled activities include listening to dinosaur stories, singing special dinosaur songs, and learning the dinosaur stomp dance. Activities appropriates for ages 4 – 10. FREE with museum admission.


Saturday, October 21 – Fossil Field Experience
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Go to a local beach and explore the fossils of Calvert Cliffs with a trained educator. Get a special tour of the fossil hall. For ages 8 and up. Pre-registration required, $20, includes museum admission. Space is limited. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.


Saturday, October 21 – Maritime Performance Series presents Barrule
7 p.m. The concert is presented in partnership with The Celtic Society of Southern Maryland. Named after the famous Manx summit where legend says the ancient Celtic God Manannan MacLir stalked his mighty fortress, Barrule fuses three distinct musical forces: gifted fiddle-player Tomas Callister, accordion wizard Jamie Smith, and versatile accompanist Adam Rhodes on bouzouki. Together this talented acoustic unit creates a powerful and wholly distinctive sound. Tickets are $25 at the door, as available. Tuesday, October 24 – Volunteer Council Forum
5:30 – 7 p.m. All CMM volunteers and those that would like to become a volunteer are invited to learn about the Volunteer Council, hear an update on the museum’s future plans from the director, and exchange ideas about how to improve the volunteer experience. FREE.


Thursday, October 26 – Little Minnows
10 – 11 a.m. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Theme is Sea Stars and Other Unique Creatures. Fee is $5, CMM members are FREE.


Thursday, October 26 – Gills Club
5:30 – 7 p.m. FREE program designed for girls ages 7 – 12 interested in learning more about sharks. Gills Club is a STEM-focused program from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.
