Trump reverses course on private sector infrastructure investments

Some of us may recall Trump promising to head up $1 trillion in infrastructure spending, updated air traffic control system (including getting it off the govt. teet), and stop excess pork attached to local road/transit projects.

We've yet to see anything moving regarding ATC reform, and the DoT is still spending money on those local projects (like the California light rail project).

President Trump told lawmakers this week that he was abandoning a key element of his planned $1 trillion infrastructure package, complaining that certain partnerships between the private sector and federal government simply don’t work.

During the meeting, Trump “emphatically rejected what everybody assumed was his position relative to financing infrastructure,” said Rep. Brian Higgins (D-N.Y.), who attended and asked Trump about the proposal. “He dismissed it categorically and said it doesn’t work.”

At the meeting Tuesday, Higgins said Trump indicated the administration instead would seek to pay for infrastructure upgrades through direct federal spending — either by paying for projects with new tax revenue or by taking on debt.
