Ex-Trump aide Manafort charged with US tax fraud over Ukraine work

The 12 charges brought against Mr Manafort and one of his business associates, Rick Gates, include conspiracy to launder money.

They stem from an inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in the US election.

It has emerged that another adviser to Mr Trump admitted this month to lying about his links to Russia.

George Papadopolous pleaded guilty to making false statements to FBI agents about his dealings with an unnamed overseas academic who allegedly informed him that the Russians possessed "dirt" on Mr Trump's presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton.

that always has to be the dumbest damn thing ......... keep your mouth shut, they will always get a conviction on lying to investigators

FBI Reliance on Discredited Fusion GPS “Russia Dossier” Threatens Manafort Prosecution
FBI illegally obtained FISA wiretapping of Manafort based on dossier

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Special Counselor Robert Mueller’s case is in danger of being thrown out of court when the FBI is forced to admit FISA court authority to conduct electronic surveillance on former Trump campaign Paul Manafort was based on the fraudulent Fusion GPS “Russia dossier” that the FBI, the Clinton campaign, and the Democratic National Committee paid to be produced.

Under the “fruit of the poison tree doctrine” established by the Supreme Court in Fourth Amendment illegal search and seizure cases, the FBI and/or Mueller may have compromised their entire investigation of Paul Manafort by either using the fraudulent “Russia dossier” paid for in part by the FBI, or by illegally leaking information derived from the FISA-authorized electronic surveillance to CNN and other mainstream media publications known to be partisan “Never Trump” mouthpieces.

CNN reported the secret FISA warrant was obtained after Manafort became the subject of the FBI investigation that began as early as 2014 under then FBI Director James Comey, and centered upon work Manafort conducted consulting with Ukraine.

“Some of the intelligence collected includes communications that sparked concerns among investigators that Manafort had encouraged the Russians to help with the campaign, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. Two of these sources, however, cautioned that the evidence is not conclusive,” CNN reported.

NO CHARGES OF TRUMP COLLUSION: Here's What You Need To Know About The Manafort Indictment

The indictment centers almost entirely around Manafort’s alleged illegal lobbying and money laundering activities between 2006 and 2014, since Manafort’s money source was the Ukrainian Party of Regions, which dissolved in 2014 with the ouster of Viktor Yanukovych. The indictment alleges that Manafort and Richard Gates III, his right hand, worked as “unregistered agents of the Government of Ukraine … generated tens of millions of dollars in income as a result of their Ukraine work.” They then “laundered the money through scores of United States and foreign corporations, partnerships, and bank accounts.” Manafort and Gates didn’t register as foreign agents, which they apparently were. And “Manafort used his hidden overseas wealth to enjoy a lavish lifestyle in the United States, without paying taxes on that income.”

The period of defrauding the government continued through 2017, according to the indictment: “Between in or around 2008 and 2017, both dates being approximate and inclusive … Manafort and Gates devised and intended to devise, and executed and attempted to execute, a scheme and artifice to defraud, and to obtain money and property by means of false and fraudulent pretenses, representations, and promises from the United States, bank, and other financial institutions.” They allegedly wired millions through other companies for purposes of laundering through 2014. Manafort also bought properties with offshore money in order to take loans against the property to boost his lifestyle.

BREAKING: Former Trump Foreign Policy Advisor Cuts Plea Deal, Admits Russians Offered To Funnel 'Dirt' on Hillary

Papadopoulos became close with a member of the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs. On April 26, 2016, Papadopoulos learned from the professor that the professor had met with “high-level Russian government officials,” and that the professor had been told that the Russians had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton, including “thousands of emails.”

Papadopoulos continued to pursue an off-the-record meeting between campaign representatives and “members of president putin’s office and the mfa.” The campaign continued to express warmth toward the idea of a meeting.

So, here are the open questions:

  • Who were the “campaign supervisor” and “high-ranking campaign official” mentioned in the statement of offense?
  • Did Papadopoulos actually have any pull?
  • Who hired Papadopoulos?
  • Were Papadopoulos and the campaign attempting to set up a meeting for purposes of warmer relations with Russia, or for purposes of gaining dirt regarding Hillary?
  • Did any of this have to do with the June 9, 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and other campaign members and front lawyers for the Russians?
  • If all of this was aboveboard, what was Papadopoulos trying to hide?

All of this is far more problematic for the Trump campaign than Manafort. But it’s also far less certain. What will Papadopoulos tell Mueller? We’ll find out soon enough.

Yeah, even CNN says it doesn't - the very worst they can come up with is that Trump showed poor judgment in bringing him aboard.

I wish I had a nickel for every person Obama associated with over the years that demonstrated a similar lapse in judgment.
Fortunately - it's not a crime.

Actually, about a year ago, but - why WOULDN'T they prefer her?

I believe Judge Jnine already said het the fruit of the poison tree would free Manafort.

If they are charging money laundering and ilegal campaign funds they need to start looking at Democrats.

Well he can't because then the mindless progs will start sobbing about corruption and wah wah wah. The Justice Department (*cough*) needs to step in and herd these cats, but Jeff Sessions isn't going to do that, which is why he's been on Trump's #### list.

See, that's the thing - Trump had to nominate someone for these positions, but if they're all corrupt aholes what are you supposed to do? So Trump fires them, and the progpress has a conniption. Wah wah wah. Sessions is on thin ice and doesn't seem to care because he thinks Trump can't fire him, forgetting completely that Trump gives zero ####s about appearances and partisan bull####.

After everything that has come out over the uranium deal, I can't understand why in the world the Russians might pick Trump over Hillary.

Unless there's some YUUGE larger picture I'm not seeing, if they have so much "dirt" on Trump, it should be arriving in truckloads about now.
Actually, about a year ago, but - why WOULDN'T they prefer her?

My guess would be she double crossed them, or Bill banged Putin's ole lady.

That is a mighty high priced audit.

I'm surprised it doesn't mention that at 1 point they told a racially insensitive joke or maybe even engaged in jaywalking.

Maybe the Russians have some integrity and even they do not want to sink so low as to deal with Hillary.

Let me ask: Manafort has been placed on 10 Million dollar bail.
Then I read that he is also under House Arrest and cannot leave his home.

Now it was my thought that when you are on bail you can go to the movies, attend meetings ,and even go to a bar and have a beer.

What's with the house arrest, and 10 million is a pretty large bail, they also took his passport.
