Mexico won’t have to pay for the wall, after all. US taxpayers won’t have to pick up the tab, either. The controversial barrier, rather, will cover its own cost just by closing the border to illegal immigrants who tend to go on the federal dole.

That’s the finding of recent immigration studies showing the $18 billion wall President Trump plans to build along the southern border will pay for itself by curbing the importation of not only crime and drugs, but poverty.

Of course, you can't tell lifelong career politicians anything, and you sure as hell can't tell the blank-eyed bots who worship them.

A better idea that would benefit all would be to increase trade with Mexico...bulk up their economy so Mexicans can get jobs in Mexico...our businesses can trade back and forth with Mexican businesses and everyone is better off.

Oh...wait...basic common sense economic ideas like this don't mesh with a protectionist agenda pushed by an incompetent.

Wait wait wait. Half the jobs they have in Mexico now came from the US,
Car parts, Hersheys and others left here and went there..
How many more jobs do we need to give them to keep them there.?

P.S. The money we send there for the dope that idiots use here is half their economy.

Yeah this sounds like a well thought out idea backed with facts and figures.

Dream on. This is so stupid and obviously false it needs no further comment.

You "blank eye bots" have been put into total darkness with your hatred for Trump. The only thing on your little minds is get rid of Trump. It is a laugh to hear a progbot preach about common sense and then say "A better idea that would benefit all would be to increase trade with Mexico...bulk up their economy". If you actually had any common sense it would be obvious that if it hasn't worked before and it hasn't worked in the other country's that have similar corrupt leaders, why should it work now? To me, Trump is a very unlikeable person. He could easily use his tweets in a constructive way to countermand the truly fake news but instead he chooses to attack like a child. I never listen to his speeches anymore as the exaggerations and extreme bragging turn me off. You would be much better off if you did as I do....ignore the man and look at the results. Besides being so unscrewed about your failed election, his personality has fueled your rage into pure hatred. Progbots don't have enough room in their little brain for all that stuff so there is no way they will understand how much good he has already done for this country.

I'm Guessing you couldn't be bothered to READ THE ARTICLE ....

“The wall could pay for itself even if it only modestly reduced illegal crossings and drug smuggling,” Steven A. Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Post.

Federal data shows that a wall would work. A two-story corrugated metal fence in El Paso, Texas, first erected under the Bush administration has already curtailed illegal border crossings there by more than 89 percent over the five-year period during which it was built.

Absent a wall, the Homeland Security Department forecasts an additional 1.7 million illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border over the next decade.

If a wall stopped just 200,000 of those future crossings, Camarota says, it would pay for itself in fiscal savings from welfare, public education, refundable tax credits and other benefits currently given to low-income, illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

Camarota explains that illegal border-crossers from Mexico and Central America — who account for more than 75 percent of the illegal immigrant population in the US — are overwhelmingly poor, uneducated and lack English language and other skills. In fact, the average Latino illegal immigrant has less than a 10th-grade education. That means if they work, they tend to make low wages; and as a result pay relatively little in taxes while using public services. And if they have children while in the US, they more often than not receive welfare benefits on behalf of those US-born children, who have the same welfare eligibility as any other citizen.

Ah, if it only were that easy.

They need to be going after the employers who hire the illegals.
While I generally agree, this is like saying that we need to go after insurance companies for the high policies that cause people to murder.

The companies are violating the law and need to be held accountable, but the real problem is that people come to the country illegally

Mmm, not really. It's more like going after the guy who hires the hitman.

The companies are violating the law and need to be held accountable, but the real problem is that people come to the country illegally

If business owners wouldn't hire them, they wouldn't come over.

My final answer is that both entities need to be addressed.

Those who support Trump’s border wall should be able to make the case without relying on unrealistically cheap construction costs and outrageous estimates of the number of illegal immigrants that it will deter. Assuming future border crossers have similar ages and educations as more recent crossers make it virtually impossible for the border wall to pay for itself. Adjusting for higher border wall construction costs estimated by MIT means the wall, by itself, would have to deter more people who are estimated to even enter over the next decade without a wall. Whatever the purported benefits of such a wall, its construction will cost a great deal more than it will save even under very generous assumptions.
