1. Insurance If the Mueller Investigation Ends

In case special counsel Robert Mueller comes out and clears Trump, Democrats could say Russia collusion was still an issue being decided in court. Maybe Democrats fear Mueller will come out and report no collusion before the next election. After all, according to reports, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein did just tell the president he wasn’t a “target” of the Mueller investigation.

2. A Distraction as Russia-Gate Implodes

Mueller has searched for collusion for more than a year and come up with nothing. Collusion has morphed into Stormy Daniels. But Russia-gate is all the Democrats have.

Meanwhile, former FBI director Jim Comey is imploding on live television, and his deputy Andrew McCabe may soon face criminal charges. Comey and McCabe are contradicting each other, and the inspector general may soon release a report that thwacks much of the Obama-vintage FBI upper echelon.

3. Projecting

If you paid a sketchy opposition research firm to come up with a document using dubious Russian sources, then used compliant intelligence officials to legitimize your document, which you then used to create media reports to try to sway the vote, you’d be terrified of people finding the truth, wouldn’t you?

Maybe you’d assuage your inner guilt (assuming you still have a conscience) by saying your rival is everything that you are, and did everything that you did.

4. An Attempt to Get Trump People in Legal Jeopardy

Maybe, if the suit is allowed to take off, just about the entire Trump family will have to sit down for hours-long depositions. Then the DNC hopes someone contradicts themselves or someone else. But this goes both ways, which brings us to the last, and most likely, explanation for the DNC’s lawsuit.

5. Hubris

If you tell a lie long enough, you start to believe it. Even with the national media squarely in their court, Democrats might be overplaying their hand, simply because they really believe Hillary Clinton is the rightful president (#Resist).

But legal discovery is a two way street, and the rules permit very broad discovery. The Trump team can demand documents and depositions too. They could force John Brennan, Clapper, Comey, McCabe, Peter Strzok, Loretta Lynch, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Donna Brazile, Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, Sid Blumenthal, Hillary Clinton, and maybe even Obama to testify under oath.

Collapse of Michael Flynn case is latest sign ‘RussiaGate’ was a complete fraud


Flynn’s supposed crime was lying to FBI agents in a January 2017 interview at the White House. Yet the concealed evidence included 1) a top FBI official’s notes suggesting the entire purpose of the interview was to catch Flynn in a lie, or get him to admit to a technical violation of the Logan Act — all in order to force him from office. And 2) an internal Justice Department memo, from the day before that interview, calling on the FBI to close the Flynn investigation because agents had dug up absolutely no wrongdoing.

In fact, they already had the transcript of Flynn’s call with the Russian ambassador that was the supposed reason for the interview — and knew he’d said nothing improper, just things an incoming national-security adviser should discuss.

Now-disgraced agent Peter Strzok intervened to keep the case open anyway and proceed to the interview, which even then-FBI chief Jim Comey later admitted was in violation of multiple standard procedures.

Yet both Strzok and the other agent in the interview left agreeing that Flynn hadn’t attempted any deception at all. It was months later that prosecutors working under Mueller decided that he had lied — and proceeded to nearly bankrupt Flynn with legal fees, then threaten to prosecute his son, before the general finally agreed to plead guilty.

And this is hardly the only recent eye-opener: Soon-to-be-released transcripts of 2017-18 House Intelligence Committee interviews reportedly show that the FBI’s Russia investigation had come up empty all across the board before President Trump even took office.

Richard Grenell delivers 'satchel' of documents to DOJ that shatter Schiff collusion claims: Report

After the House Intelligence Committee released dozens of witness transcripts from its investigation into Russian election interference on Thursday, Fox News chief White House correspondent Ed Henry reported two sources told him acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell is prepared to unveil additional documents that will show how Chairman Adam Schiff and other investigators "knew for a long time there was no collusion" between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin "even though they kept saying they had direct evidence."

Multiple Obama administration officials, including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, told investigators behind closed doors that they had not seen "empirical evidence" showing members of the Trump team were conspiring with Russia to meddle in the 2016 election, according to the newly released transcripts.

Attorney General William Barr received a separate "satchel" of documents, Henry said in a report Friday evening on Tucker Carlson Tonight as Fox News aired video that a producer took of Grenell personally delivering them to the Justice Department.

Combine that with the end of the Flynn persecution and the narrative gets real ugly for the intelligence community and Obama
Flynn followed all the rules, he went to Moscow to give a speech, which he was paid for. He spoke to security officials before and after his trip.
At a meeting in the White House Obama was briefed on the lack of any connection between the Trump Campaign and Russia he held over Comey, Deputy AG Sally Yates, and Biden. That's were he informed them of "the phone call". Recollection by Yates was that it was Comey who kept bringing up the Logan act.

The question was raised as to why Obama warned Trump that Flynn was trouble. The truth was that Flynn, while the Director of DIA, wanted to reform the intelligence community, he angered the insiders. He had enemies of those in the intelligence community because he was breaking up their private club. Put in context, it was Chuck Schumer who issued the warning that it was not good to make enemies in the intelligence community because they have a dozen ways they will come at you.
