Summer school is being held at Thomas Stone High School this year with students heading to class on July 10. The first day for teachers is July 9. Courses will wrap up for staff and students Aug. 8. At 4 p.m. Aug. 8, a ceremony will be held for seniors who completed their course work in summer school.

Original credit courses

High school students can sign up for an original English III credit. Students who have met all the requirements to graduate at the end of their junior year and have an approved application on file with their home school to graduate at the end of 11th grade can enroll in English III. Personal Financial Literacy can be taken by sophomores, juniors and seniors for an original credit. Incoming ninth graders can sign up to take Fit for Life/health for an original credit. The course is an online course, that also provides face-to-face instruction. Any high school student who hasn’t taken the course yet can sign up, as well. The original credit courses are being offered to allow more flexibility in high school schedules during the school year.

“Offering original credit courses during summer school allows students to complete graduation requirements outside of the regular school year,” said Amy Hollstein, deputy superintendent of Charles County Public Schools. “Taking one or more original credit courses in summer school allows more flexibility in a student's regular schedule; therefore, other classes such as band or art can then be taken during the school year.”
