I dont really care about ice one way or another, but the wife does. And she loves the ice from Sonic. And she's not alone, they actually sell bags of it, even at the drive through. In a bit of enlightened self interest intersecting with the need for a cool Mothers Day gift, we got her an Opal ice maker. Countertop machine, weighs almost 40lbs. Gonna fire it up after dinner and see how well it does. Interesting side note, its a product a of a GE supported "appliance incubator" called 1st Build, and as an Indiegogo project. got like 180% funded the first day. Stand by for review......

Wife says it's a win. Not a cheap one, but she never does anything for herself, so that's fine.

Sonic ice is "cup ice", where you'd just get a cup of ice and crunch on it. :yay: We frequently toy with the idea of an ice maker simply because we go through a chit ton of ice. Cold drinks, but we also keep a cooler full of water and sodas (occasionally beer and hard cider). What stops us is the footprint and where we'd put it.

Footprint on this one isnt bad. You might need some planning to fill coolers, since it only hold three pounds.

It's what's called nugget or pearl ice. Softer than regular ice, it is easier to chew and absorbs the flavors of the drink its in. Requires a special machine to make it.

Never noticed.

Did you know usually the dirtiest thing in any restaurant (bacteria wise) is the ice machine?
