Never be#fore had MLB seen a full month with more to#tal strike-outs than hits. There hadn’t even been a month where the gap be#tween the two was less than 100. April 2017 was the clos#est the sport had come to strike#outs over#tak#ing hits, with a dif#fer#ence of 138.

Head#ing into Mon#day’s slate, the fi#nal 11 sched#uled con#tests on the April sched#ule, hit#ters had whiffed 7,163 times. They had col#lected just 6,808 hits. Nearly 35% of all plate ap#pear#ances this sea#son have ended in a walk, strike#out or home run, up from less than 29% 10 years ago.

A little crazy.....

Just have to narrow that already half size strike zone some more, I guess.....:sarcasm:

The game evolves, and there are way more pitchers now throwing 100+ mph, with more relievers more often, then ever before.

Last year there were 27 total complete games in the National League. In 1971 Fergie Jenkins pitched 30 complete games that season, with 1944 games played. 1 guy with more CGs than the entire 2017 pitching lineup, 2430 games. The game has changed. Decades ago Sunday doubleheaders were the norm, so pitchers got 1 less day of rest per week. Add a weekly doubleheader to the schedule and watch the hits go up.
