Publix, a large grocery chain in the southeastern U.S., reportedly gave $670,000 to Adam Putnam, who is running in the Republican primary as voters choose a replacement for the departing GOP Gov. Rick Scott. Putnam, who currently serves as Florida’s commissioner of agriculture, opposed stricter gun-purchasing regulations passed by the state legislature and signed by Scott following the Parkland school shooting.

Activists in the state have taken to social media with calls to “#BoycottPublix” unless the Lakeland, Florida-based company withdraws its campaign donation. Some shoppers tweeted photos of receipts from other grocery stores in support of the boycott. There were, however, no signs as of this week that a large number of shoppers were abandoning the store, according to the Tampa Bay Times Opens a New Window. .

In the wake of the Parkland school shooting, gun-control activists have called out companies that have business relationships with the NRA or donate to Republican candidates. United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and other companies have severed ties with the NRA. The organization has said those decisions were “a shameful display of political and civic cowardice.”

Isn't Publix really the only grocery game in town in Fla? It seems like there's one every 10 blocks or so.

I wonder how many of the people boycotting Publix actually buy the family groceries.

Where are they gonna go, Winn-Dixie? Have fun with that.

It's interesting watching the bots jump all over the boogeyman du jour like mindless zombies. That's power, man. :yay:

So are the activists pledging to stop "cumming" into Publix stores.

Nope. Plenty of others. Publix is simply the best, here and elsewhere, rated at the top. I didn't see any lumps of brain-mush on the floors of my store.

Publix boycotts haven't reached the Redneck Riviera. They have been packed as usual. I'm guessing not too many people care what David Hogg has to say about anything.

BACKLASH: Publix Gets Slammed For Caving To Far-Left Activists; Customers Leaving

The Florida-based grocery store chain Publix is facing severe backlash after they caved to far-left activist David Hogg and his intimidation tactics on Friday as many customers are now saying they will no longer shop at the store.

Hogg and other far-left activists laid on the floor of the grocery store for 720 seconds – which Hogg falsely claimed is a second for each mass shooting that has happened in the U.S. since the Pulse nightclub massacre – and screamed for a boycott of the store.

The boycott came after it was revealed that the grocery store had donated money to a politician in the past who had described himself as a major advocate for the NRA and the Second Amendment.

The Hogg kid will soon play out.
As soon as he reaches 21 and can be served in a gay bar, he will stop protesting.

Why weren't they arrested? Last time I looked, your "right to protest" doesn't include shutting down a business and inconveniencing other people.

But it is kind of hilarious that they threw themselves on the floor in a toddler style fit.

BACKFIRE: Parkland Activist's Boycott Of Publix Does Not Go As Planned

A recent boycott launched by Parkland gun control activist David Hogg successfully pressured a Florida-based grocery store chain to halt its political donations to NRA-backed politicians, but his pressure tactics had an unexpected side effect: the company has decided to end all political contributions, including to Democratic politicians that oppose the NRA.

Publix, the grocery store chain, had donated heavily to Republican Adam Putnam, who is a staunch NRA supporter, but the chain also donated to at least two dozen candidates for federal office who opposed the NRA. The Washington Times reports that the company has given over $760,000 to Democratic candidates since 2008 that oppose the NRA:

They include multiple members of the Black Congressional Caucus, former Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Patty Murray of Washington, Bill Nelson of Florida, and Ron Wyden of Oregon...

...[they] also chipped in for presidential candidates former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernard Sanders in 2016, as well as then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008.

The newspaper also listed that one of the biggest losers to come out of Hogg's boycott is anyone who is running against Putnam, including other Republicans, because of the amount of media exposure he has received.
