Bernard Goldberg Weighs in on Dan Rather

Bernard Goldberg: Dan Rather and I were once friends!

When they worked together at CBS, years ago, they were best of friends.

Then, Mr. Goldberg wrote a story concerning liberal bias in the news media. As a courtesy between friends, he telephoned Dan Rather, who was attending an Iowa Caucus convention, and told him about his story.

The rest of the story, as they say, is history.

I read Goldberg's book "Bias" and it was a pretty good read. We all know that there IS bias in the mainstream news media, but Goldberg explains WHY this is so.

Basically he says that people who think a certain way think EVERYONE should think that way, too. They think that their ideology is the correct one, and everyone else is wrong. Which makes sense and works with all humans, not just TV anchors and news reporters.

They also surround themselves, like humans tend to do, with other people who think like them. Therefore they end up with an unsophisticated view of life, because they don't know anyone who isn't like them.

So when Dan Rather says he isn't biased, he probably believes that to be true. After all, he doesn't know ANYONE who doesn't think Bush is evil and John Kerry should be President, so he thinks of Bush supporters as fringe element oddballs.

There are people, right on this board who will say that your thoughts fit conservatives just as well.
If all you do is attend coctail parties thrown by a particular ilk or group that you curry favor with, then you'll begin to find favor in that group.

So, what it comes down to is what, or which of these groups' values do you most identify with?

For Dan Rather, it seems obvious; he's hated the Bush clan since day one, and has never missed a chance at bashing either the father or the son.
