The U.S. government had a $147 billion budget deficit in May, an increase of 66 percent from the same month last year as the ledger took a hit from declining revenue and higher spending, according to Treasury Department data released on Tuesday.

When accounting for calendar adjustments, the government’s deficit was $131 billion compared to an adjusted deficit of $88 billion in the same month in the previous year.

The deficit for the fiscal year, which began last October, was $532 billion, compared to a deficit of $433 billion in the same period of fiscal 2017. On an adjusted basis, the gap was $584 billion compared with $473 billion in the prior period.

Unadjusted receipts last month totaled $217 billion, down 10 percent from May 2017, while unadjusted outlays were $364 billion, a rise of 11 percent from the same month a year earlier.

I bet you and Maher are happier than 2 pigs in slop.

The economics of this are nothing more than simple, elementary school level math. You and those like you who were so enraged over the deficits under the past administration SHOULD BE apoplectic over what THIS Congress and incompetent President have done.

When this country NEEDED stimulus, YOU and people like you were completely against it. When this country DOESN'T need stimulus, when in fact stimulus is the ABSOLUTELY WRONG thing to do , YOU, GILLIGAN and the rest of the ignorati cult jump up and down in favor. Despite ALL the historical evidence that shows, time and time again, that tax cuts do not and never have resulted in higher tax revenues, you morons continue to believe it will magically happen. It is amazing how utterly ignorant you "informed voters" with Ivy League type educations really are.

BTW...the other basic, elementary economic theories are also already being proven...when you flood a growing economy with cash, inflation results. (We didn't have a growing economy in 2010, there was no demand for cash, that is why your right wing Chicken Little political economists were wrong.) Here is another report GURPS propaganda outlets didn't tell you yesterday:

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, the median Consumer Price Index rose 0.2% (2.8% annualized rate)

That damn Obama!

Hey... if you're going to give credit to Obama for this economic growth, he deserves blame for the current deficits

Same way the economy under Obama was always Bush's fault.

EZ

EZ for you maybe, but you're confounding overall economy (which factors in many things over a period of time) with monthly deficits directly related to Trump's economic policies from his plan to reduce taxes which is a good thing, but means less revenue to his signing of Congress' $1.3 trillion spending bill.

What happened to the Republican Party?

Beats me. Gave up any hope for them a long time ago.

You and me both. Look at the leadership. Ryan and the Turtle McConnell, and you will see what is wrong with the party.

Well they certainly suc as leadership, BUT, the rest of them elected them.
