A pair of Illinois lawmakers have introduced national licensing and registration legislation that, according to rights activists, clearly illustrates how anti-gunners view the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms as a government-regulated privilege.

Congressman Bobby Rush – known for being escorted out of the House Chambers a few years ago for wearing a hoodie – and U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, both Democrats, last week introduced the “Blair Holt Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2018.” Holt was a teen gunned down in Chicago several years ago while trying to protect a friend from a shooting on a transit bus. This is the fourth go-round for the measure, which was first introduced in 2007, and again in 2009 and 2013, according to a press release from Rep. Rush’s office.

The proposed act “would prohibit unlicensed gun-ownership and transferring or receiving firearms without a valid firearms license, as well as direct the Attorney General to establish and maintain a federal record of sale system,” the press release details.

Some people don't seem to grasp what "well-regulated" means, even if they don't grasp that a prefatory clause doesn't mean exclusivity.

When Paul Revere declared that the "regulars" were out, he was not commenting on the bowel health of the British soldiers.

It's important to know the meaning of the words when they were used - well-regulated did not mean "under government auspice",
it meant in good and proper working condition.

being a 2ndA proponent I can tell you that the tprecendent is not on our side here. The courts have let numerous similar laws in the various states stand. i doubt congress will pass this one, but i also doubt that SCOTUS would come to the rescue if they did.

I find it funny that with the restrictions and anti gun laws you all live with in Maryland, why be concerned about Illinois?

Because this BS is contagious.
Some fool reads it and next thing you know it's being brought before Mike Miller and Mike Busch.

You mean Maryland is bleeding off to Illinois?
I don't believe that Illinois has 80+ banned firearms.
They have a 72 hour handgun waiting period compared to Maryland 7 day.
Maryland has a voluntary ( lol ) handgun registration when transfered.
It's much easier to get a carry permit in Illinois than Maryland..

Not that both States have draconian gun laws, but Maryland is way more restricted than Illinois.
