Nawaz sued, and the SPLC plainly realized it couldn’t win: It has agreed to pay $3.4 million to settle the case and also issued a full apology.
“Nawaz and Quilliam have made valuable and important contributions to public discourse, including by promoting pluralism and condemning both anti-Muslim bigotry and Islamist extremism,” said Richard Cohen, the SPLC’s president.
It’s probably too much to hope for, but maybe the SPLC will start thinking twice before trying to “counter” hate by spreading hate of its own.
