    Poor Chuck Schumer.

Those are not words I ever expected to write. The leader of the Senate Democrats is a smart cookie (perfect SAT score: just ask him!) from Brooklyn back when Brooklyn was Brooklyn, before the arrival of man buns and artisanal cheese. Heís the son of an exterminator, pronounced ístermunatuh, for chrissake. Clearly, Schumer has plenty of brains and street savvy to take care of himself; the last thing he needs is pity from the sort of person who uses a semicolon.

But what a fix heís in with President Trumpís nomination of federal judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The donors and activists of his partyís base are pushing him to maintain a united front against the conservative nominee. But if Schumer delivers, he might forfeit his chances of leading a Democratic majority in the foreseeable future.

Thatís quite a prediction, given that the guy needs only two additional seats to take possession of the majority leaderís magnificent office with its sweeping views of the Mall ó and control of the Senateís business. Last yearís implosion by Alabamaís wackadoodle Roy Moore cut the Republican advantage to a mere 51 to 49.

But Schumerís tide may be going out. The coming midterm elections, less than four months away, could hardly be less favorable for Senate Democrats, whose incumbents are defending 10 seats in states that went for Donald Trump in 2016. Only one Republican incumbent is running in a state carried by Hillary Clinton.

Schmuck should get a pair of bi-focals and stop hanging those Dollar Tree glasses over his schnozz.

It goes deeper. The Dems’ desperation is such that the Senate Minority Whip, Dicky Durbin, is saying it would be worth losing several Senate seats to stop Kavanaugh’s nomination. This is a very short-sighted strategy for a couple reasons. Throwing Red State senators under the bus will not ensure they won’t rebel and vote as their constituents want, and even if the tactic worked, there’s a very real possibility the Reps will pick up more senate seats after the mid-terms, giving Trump an even stronger hand to nominate a more conservative SCOTUS candidate.

He says that because he's not up for re-election any time soon and he's in no danger in Illinois anyway, not to mention he's not going to be majority leader even if the Dems do get the seats. He's grandstanding and pretending he has integrity (which is laughable) while putting everyone else on the line.

Chunky Schemer bought deep into the CNN, Chuck Todd and MSNBC narrative that he would be majority leader in an election boom for Democrats everywhere. It didnít quite play out that way.
