Our National Embarassment

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump accused Germany of being a “captive” of Russia on Wednesday as Western leaders gathered in Brussels for a NATO summit where Trump wants Europeans to pay up more for their own defense.

In a startling public outburst against the NATO heavweight, Trump told NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg that Germany was wrong to support a new $11-billion Baltic Sea pipeline to import Russian gas while being slow to meet targets for contributing to NATO defense spending that was intended to protect Europe from Russia.

“We’re supposed to be guarding against Russia and Germany goes out and pays billions and billions of dollars a year to Russia,” Trump said in the presence of reporters at a pre-summit meeting at the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Belgium.

Trump, who is set to hold a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel later on Wednesday, appeared to substantially overstate German reliance on Russian energy and to imply the German government was funding the pipeline, which Berlin says is a commercial venture.

So what does this buffoon want? Does he want Germany out and Russia in? Or does he just want to blow up NATO altogether and make this the Russo/China Century?

What the f*** is this moron going to give away when he meets with Putin? He already gave UN everything he N. Korea wanted...will he do the same with Putin?

And the secret for how Dairy Queen gets the top of soft serve to swirl in reverse to the earths rotation.

Based on what you posted, he wants the other nations of NATO to live up to their agreement, and he wants to support the NATO nations against Russia.

You don't get that because it calls for two things: accountability, and Trump-against-Russia. Based on your posts, you are incapable of understanding either concept.

It's not "billions and billons per year", it's a $10 billion project and if it's anything like the first lines (Nord Stream) Germany won't pay for all of it. 30% of Nord Stream was shareholder equity and the other 70% was from bank financing. With Germany's Nat. Gas needs increasing with nat. gas production from other European countries declining, it was their best choice. Especially since Germany (and the UK, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands) will benefit from lower gas prices. Russia wants to route through the Baltic Sea because of tensions with Ukraine and routing through there costs them more money than routing it via the Baltic Sea. Note that they've had 2 pipelines in place since 2011 and this project (Nord Stream 2) is running parallel pipe lines to double capacity.

So in essence, EU is selling our Ukraine for Natural Gas. Didn't they want to part of the EU. EU bunch of self serving countries.

No, the EU already gets nat. gas from Ukraine pipelines (which comes from supplies in Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary) and only about 1/4 of EU's needs are from Russia. As of now, about 80% of that gas goes through Ukraine. Russian gas company Gazprom were in disputes with Ukrainian gas company Naftohaz over the price of the gas and the cost to transport through Ukraine. Russia claimed Ukraine was taking their gas, not paying for it, and sending it to the EU. In 2006, Russia cut off their gas supply to Ukraine. 3 days later is was back on. In 2007-2008, Ukraine and Russia were in disputes again over how much Ukraine owed Russia. Long story short, that caused a majority of Europe to lose, or limit, gas supply. A few more disputes popped up and Russia is saying, screw you then we'll double our own pipeline to Europe.

In essence, Russia is going around Ukraine to avoid disputes and paying more to ship their nat. gas to Europe. Gazprom plans to cut off all gas through Ukraine after 2019.

What a shock. When I saw the title of the article I thought it was going to be ABOUT Transporter not BY Transporter!
