Vertigo

Who has had this? I need to talk to others who have experienced this. I feel like a prisoner in my house afraid to leave.

Have you seen a doctor? Depending on what's causing it, there might be a simple fix.

It can be caused by a number of things. Eye issues, inner ear issues, ear wax buildup.... A trip the the doc is in order. Our guessing won't help you much.

I should have mentioned it's from my inner ear and I'm on medicine. I was just wondering from other's experiences how long theirs lasted. It's better than the first part of the week. The entire room is swirling around and but still feeling some dizziness and unbalanced.

Doctors are pushers. Try this:(Well, google it yourself, i can't figure out how to post it) Dr Carol Foster, Half somersault maneuver. ... I also heard once that roller coaster rides work.

mitzi, I myself have vertigo. I cannot climb ladders or anything not on solid ground; I "don't do" rooftops.
I have a post somewhere here about my experience back in May.
Well, here it is.....snark and everything.....

Can be caused by several things. Do you have hearing loss and/or tinnitus in one or both ears? Vomiting? If so it is most likely Meniere's Disease or Vestibular Migraine. I have Meniere's and it's no joke. Being afraid to leave your house is a classic example of the anxiety it causes...I'm assuming you were given an anti-vertigo? Cut back drastically on sodium immediately.

Mine is the BPPV. Luckily I had no vomiting. This came out of nowhere Tuesday morning when I sat up in bed. I went to the ER that evening when it got so bad, it slammed me backwards on the bed. I think I was out for a few seconds and thank goodness I was sitting on the bed and didn't hit the floor. I was pretty scared not knowing what was wrong with me.

I feel like I'm walking like I'm drunk trying to maintain my balance lol. How in the world did you manage to climb down a ladder, you're so lucky you didn't fall. I have a fear of a bad episode and falling. I think I'll pass on the somersault exercise. I'm clumsy, have back issues and probably wouldn't be able to get back up off the floor. Have you any more episodes recently?

I'm sorry to hear you're suffering. My half sister had diagnosed vertigo for about 7 months. She literally had to crawl around on the floor - I hope yours isnt as bad. I'm not sure what meds she was on, but I don't think they did enough to eliminate all symptoms to allow her return to her normal routine. It faded away almost as fast as it came on with no solid diagnosis as to why or what caused it.
I worried it was something that ran in the family, when about 8 months ago, I spent a weekend in bed because the room was spinning. It turned out it was diabetes for me and once I got my sugar under control I havent had any more episodes.

It's very disorienting, to say the least. I hope you find a solution soon.

I'll head to Six Flags tomorrow and ride all the coasters.:jameo:

GWguy already said it, but it's worth reiterating how important it is to make sure you have no ear wax build up or pressure on your inner ear like water from swimmer's ear. The inner ear is the epicenter of your body's balance mechanism.

Hope you feel better soon.

A friend has BPPV which is supposedly common but you should see a doctor to make sure it is not something more serious

I have an appointment Monday. I should have gone sooner but was afraid to drive. I think mine is BPPV. My right ear has been bothering me. Not painful just feels clogged or something isn't right.

Try a Neti Pot in combination of what you are already doing.... it will get worse before it gets better.

I have Meniere's disease so I have been there and do hope you feel better soon. There is nothing worse than
how your feeling. :ohwell:

Thank you. I've been using the Neti Pot too. Come to think of it, I had a splitting sinus pressure headache the weekend before all of this started. I get those a lot, but it may be tied into this. By bet is the doctor is going to send me to an ENT specialist. I thought I was getting better and didn't take the medicine the other day (it makes want to nap all the time). Mistake, was dizzy and off balance 1/2 the day. I just want this to go away! I appreciate all of the input everyone has given me.
