I used to have this clipping from "For Better or Worse" - a daily comic that I am not sure is still being written.
In it, the little girl asks her mother why they color eggs at Easter - and her mother says she doesn't know but -
goes on a rather long winded discussion on how eggs symbolize beginnings and so forth until the strip shows that
the little girl is bored and her thought bubble says "how come the LONGEST explanations always start with 'I don't know'? ".

Is it possible that Ocasio-Cortez's election could flip this district red? She will be running against Anthony Pappas, a highly educated professor who, no doubt is well-versed on the issues. I would love to watch their debates. Ocasio-Cortez is going to require an immersion on the issues and will require some keen memorization skills; then apply that to her socialist thinking. Will the people of New York's 14th district care about her lack of knowledge of the issues; or will they simply vote left for the sake of keeping things left?

I think she is a result of the influence of the Trump election; in that the voters are rejecting the establishment / the status quo and picking an outsider. I find it hard to believe that the 14th District is this far left, but sick of nothing getting done.

You know - as long as I've been alive - this has been relevant in politics.
But I can't understand why unless having someone in Congress really isn't that important.
In sports, when we picked the team captain - it was usually either the guy who was clearly the best at it -
or the best actual leader. We didn't give a crap if he was white or black or rich or poor or anything.
Ditto the coach - we just wanted the best guy. He didn't have to look like us - he just had to help us WIN.

Trump generally has no knowledge of whatever topic he is questioned about. Go watch the spectacles that were the news conferences he held last week at NATO and with PM May. Trump is just utterly clueless, which is what happens when you are utterly unprepared...which is what happens when you assume a position you are totally unfit and unqualified to hold.

There are cubans that managed to escape during the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Perhaps not in great numbers but still fresh from the commune.

Just lie Obammy couldn't speak without his teleprompter. Unlike Trump, Obammy was, is, & always will be utterly clueless to American Exceptionalism.
