U.S. housing starts hit nine-month low; permits fall

This was a rotten report...and will take some of the wind out of Q2 GDP growth (yes Gilligan...you have to wait for all sectors to report in...not just cherry pick the items that propaganda sites point to in order to spin a story to the uneducated...June trade data -which won't be released till Aug 6th may also be terrible)

What is one reason given for reduction in housing starts? Price increases. Why are prices of new homes rising?

A survey on Tuesday showed confidence among single-family homebuilders unchanged in July, with builders continuing to be “burdened by rising construction material costs.”

The Trump administration in April 2017 imposed anti-subsidy duties on imports of Canadian softwood lumber, which builders say have boosted the price of a new single-family home.

So get ready for the quote from Trump: "no one knew how much lumber was used to build houses!"

The actual housing report is here: https://www.census.gov/construction/nrc/pdf/newresconst.pdf

Oh...why may the trade data be terrible? Chinese companies shipped record amounts of cargo to US in June. Why? To beat the impending tariffs of course.

The trade data will come out after the first read of Q2 GDP.

how convenient you left this part out:

"Higher lumber prices and shortages of land and labor are constraining homebuilding"

And yet, Gurps & Gilligan cherry pick data & fail to read the entire article. I would conclude that a shortage of land & labor played a bigger role in a reduction of housing starts

It's true. We just have so little land in this country.

Ever been to Asia?

You get more and more ridiculous in your attempts to defend Trump's by the minute

You people stop taking the wind out of Tranny's sails. She was happy as a pig in slop posting that housing starts were down and thinking it would hurt Trump.
She probably popped the big O

I was listening to WTOP on Sunday to a report on people looking to retire and move. The reporter stated that in many areas of the country there is still a glut of unsold existing homes on the market. I would have to think that would play into housing starts as well.
