The scheduled 10:30 rally of the Patriot Prayer group in Gov Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Downtown Portland, became its standard snarl, as police confiscated items that could be used as weapons from both sides. The counter-protesters who always show up generally have Antifa members to cause trouble.

Antifa showed up looking like holdovers from the middle ages: helmets, shields emblazoned with the red Antifa logo, black attire, the usual masks. The other side came with American flags, helmets, sticks for self defense and small shields with the Confederate battle flag on them.

The difference between these jackasses and people who really want to enable change (MLK, etc.) is that they don't hide behind masks.

You are going to want to look up who shows up to these rallies from the right before you start talking about who is showing their true colors.

Oh, there are as#$#@$ on both sides no doubt. The difference is that if the antifa ones just ignored these other guys, nothing would happen. Or if they just showed up like normal folks and pointed and laughed, again, nothing would happen. But no, they think that they are being heros but in reality they are playing the exact game the alt-right folks want them too.

So we agree the point of these alt right demonstrations is to incite people to violence. :yay:


This falls under the ‘play stupid games’ doctrine. They go out intending to intimidate and incite and are met with people who won’t put up with it. They are getting what they ask for

I do not agree that the answer to speech you dont like is violence. Do you agree with me, or do you think that violence to end speech you disagree with is acceptable. Generally speaking, playing stupid games implies you did something illegal. Like driving 120mph on RT235, or assaulting a police officer.

Your "Getting what they ask for" smacks of the old rape defense. "Well, dressing like that is asking for it".

Antifa wants to march all day long and advocate anarchy, go right ahead. Socialists want to advocate that, go right ahead. Speech is protected, no matter how much you dont like it, that's sorta the damn point. Look at Westboro, how heinous their speech and actions were. Protected, all of it. Lots of whites in the south didnt like black folks protesting, and they figured physical action was justified. They were wrong and so is Antifa. Be very careful in what actions you allow in violation of the Constitution, that protection is there for a very good reason.

I do love how the press and the police carefully word things to not say who is actually starting the violence, and whom most of the weapons are taken away from.
