China says business ties with Iran no harm to any other country

In a statement released late on Friday, China’s foreign ministry reiterated its opposition to unilateral sanctions and “long-armed jurisdiction”.

“For a long time, China and Iran have had open, transparent and normal commercial cooperation in the fields of business, trade and energy, which is reasonable, fair and lawful,” it said.

“This does not violate United Nations Security Council resolutions or China’s promised international obligations, nor does it harm the interests of any other country, and should be respected and protected,” the ministry added.

Using sanctions at the slightest pretext or to threaten anyone won’t resolve the problem, it said.

“Only dialogue and negotiations are the true path to resolving the issue,” the ministry added.

But you see, that doesn't fit Trump:

1. He never actually seems to know what he wants. His goals change with the wind.

2. He doesn't negotiate. He just makes demands and expects everyone else to bow to his will. That worked when he was hiring mom and pops to furnish his hotels (and then refusing to pay...it doesn't work when he is dealing with his equals or his betters.

So China, once again, looks magnanimous on the world stage. China looks like the source of international leadership. The US looks like a rudderless, free floating ship in a port undergoing a hurricane. We just bash into whatever is near...do as much damage as possible then bash into something else.

That statement from the Chinese about negotiation is right, and Trump plans to negotiate, he always has, but the Chinese had no intention of giving us any slack until the tariff's.
