More tariff winning

The last few years have been great for our industry. And, thanks to President Trump’s historic tax reform, our outlook was even better.
These hard-and-fast tariffs are unfairly punishing manufacturers like Correct Craft, where we exclusively use U.S. aluminum, even though more than 90 percent of aluminum used in the U.S. by American boat makers is sourced from domestic mills. This is because the administration’s tariffs have distorted the global market, driving up the price of domestic aluminum by 20 to 30 percent. This is bad news for our company, our workers, and our industry.
Canada, Mexico, and the European Union — which account for 69 percent of total recreational boating exports and the majority of Correct Craft’s foreign sales — have implemented retaliatory tariffs of 10 percent, 15 percent, and 25 percent respectively. These new tariffs are going to make it more difficult to sell boats around the world — and this puts the industry’s $1.8 billion in recreational boat and engine exports and the jobs of Americans in jeopardy.

Stack-On Products plans to lay off 128 people at its facility in north suburban Wauconda and 25 people at its McHenry plant when it closes both facilities Oct. 12, said Al Fletcher, human resources director for Alpha Guardian, the Las Vegas-based parent company.
“The operation is really not profitable,” Fletcher said. He said the decision to relocate operations to Juarez, Mexico, was made about two months ago when President Donald Trump announced tariffs on numerous goods and materials from China as well as other countries, to reduce what the president has called an unfair trade deficit.

“Mr. Trump is part of this,” Fletcher said. So far, the United States has imposed tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese technology goods and $3 billion of Chinese steel and aluminum, and has proposed another $16 billion.

??? Of all their product lines (7 boat lines), one small group builds small aluminum skiffs. All the rest are fiberglass.

Your point is utterly irrelevant and has absolutely nothing to do with the point....as usual.

So....sweetie...where all da aluminum in their products?

All of our marine products are made from aluminum, titanium, or various grades of stainless steel. Actual cost increases have been minor; they were far worse back around 2009 when the Child King was playing in the WH.

EU?? Didn't they announce about 2 weeks ago that they lifted ALL tariffs until they negotiate another trade deal with the US???

So your point is lost again..

Canada, could give a rat's ass about.. and their $6 a gallon for milk and $7 a gallon for gas.. ANYTHING to protect their ghastly tax revenue.. and not do anything to actually help their citizens.

Isn't Ford using aluminum for their pick up trucks now? Just asking.

No, they didn't. The EU agreed to work toward zero tariffs, but they didn't lift ALL tariffs.

That's such an easy thing to confirm. I mean, you're already on the internet to comment on here, but you couldn't be bothered to try and verify your claim before posting just so you could try and be a smartass?

Yes, they are. Other car manufacturers also use aluminum.

Goldman Sachs estimated that these tariffs will cost Ford and GM $1 billion per year and Ford's Q1 2018 EBIT was down $480 million due to commodity cost increases. Ford has said that the tariffs, "could result in an increase in domestic commodity prices — harming the competitiveness of American manufacturers."

The American International Automobile Dealers Association warned car prices could increase. Ford and GM won't let 12% of their profits fly out the window due to tariffs. Those costs gets passed on to the consumer.

It would seem to me this whole tariff thing is being looked at by some company by company instead of the big picture.

Today we have more job openings than people looking for jobs, making being on unemployment or welfare an unreasonable place to be. Today we have unemployment at the general range of comparable to other historic lows, with some demographics being lower than ever before recorded.

When we start to look at "yeah, but TOMMY was laid off", we miss the big picture of the national economy.

Yes, it was in the article I linked to. Congratulations on splitting short and curlys but doesn't make a bit of difference to the actual point of the article.
much?

So a company that uses very little aluminum cries about the impact of increases in the cost of aluminum. Nice piece, kid.

Which doesn't make a bit of difference to the actual point of what the tariffs are meant to accomplish in the long run. Patience is just another one of the many virtues you Dem/Prog/Socialist Commies completely lack

So on a large scale, as noted, these are meant to work on a long term. Something which isn't cared about by people in business who live by quarterly numbers. So of course the will complain. As wil the politcians who are bought and paid for by them.

As to the American makers who use aluminum, what about the mom-American makers who build cars here? How many "foriegn" cars are built domestically?

http://www.thedrive.com/news/21922/japanese-automakers-build-twice-as-many-cars-in-u-s-than-import

69 percent of the Japanese cars sold in the U.S. are built domestically while the other 31 percent are built overseas

In your zeal to either continue to be a pompous ass or an unhealthly desire to be correct, you completely ignore the fact that the increased cost of aluminum still affects them as they are building boats with it (though the amount of boats built with it may not meet your personal threshold).

Which doesn't make a bit of difference to the actual point of what the tariffs are meant to accomplish in the long run. Patience is just another one of the many virtues you Dem/Prog/Socialist Commies completely lack

Now advocating for a free market is a "Dem/Prog/Socialist Commie" platform? You folks have lost your collective minds.

Here's where you put down the bong and provide a specific number to explain how badly a company that uses a small amount of aluminum is affected in such a grandiosely inflated way.

I'll wait.
