Every major leftist movement the world has seen has been totalitarian by nature. Occasionally this brand of extremism arises elsewhere along the ideological spectrum, such as Islamo-fascism, but Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany remain the archetypes of the socialist genre of dictatorship among many incarnations which clearly include today’s “liberal Democrats” in the United States.

Contemporary liberal Democrats reveal their totalitarian proclivities in many subtle ways, such as support for single-payer healthcare and all other forms of big government, and some that are not so subtle. Recent years have seen a surge in the latter variety. Shouting down conservative speakers on college campuses to silence their views has been ongoing, but now the practice has graduated to violent attacks on speakers and audiences. There is no record of comparable suppression of speech by conservatives. And why is it only the left that abides no dissent from its preferred orthodoxy? The adherents expose through their own behavior that they fear a fair debate of ideas, so they attempt to quell intellectual challenge through brute force—just as all autocrats do.

"Squelching" is when a campus refuses to let a speaker speak - the very definition of restricting freedom of speech.
Squelch is using financial pressure to shut down groups holding a political group; antagonizing and encouraging antagonism of people you don't agree with;
refusing to carry books and publications of political pundits you don't agree with; showing up to marches and protests with bats and weapons to
"counter-protest". I could go on and on.

What HAS he done? Shut down a paper or news service? Shut down a news channel?
No - he's told them to eff off. Obama had nearly every news outlet kissing his ring and blushing to ask him questions,
and all he could do was daily assault the ONLY sources that took issue with him. Every. Single. Day.

What is LAUGHABLE is that newspapers across the country decided to combine their efforts to oppose him --
thereby *PROVING* what he has said all along. They want to claim he's opposing their constitutional right of freedom of the press -
so they do the one thing that proves he's NOT.

If the press can be completely relied on to always push one political agenda and not a balanced view - they are
not serving the people, they are serving a political party. There ARE nations in the world where the press mirrors one
political side and not the others, and we know which ones they are and what kind of government they represent.

I shudder to countenance the kind of person who believes the press should always agree across the board.
Because countries that do that are the world's most despotic.

And that DOES make them "the enemy of the people". They're not the friend of the people - they're the
mouth of the party.
