Trump speechwriter fired amid scrutiny of appearance with white nationalists

A White House speechwriter for President Trump was terminated last week after revelations that he had spoken at a conference attended by well-known white nationalists, according to three people familiar with the decision who were not authorized to speak publicly.

Darren Beattie, who was a visiting instructor at Duke University before he joined the White House speechwriting team, was fired Friday after a media inquiry about his appearance at the 2016 H.L. Mencken Club conference, where Beattie spoke on a panel alongside Peter Brimelow.

that another member of this dysfunctional WH is not there is not in and of itself interesting..here is the interesting part:

Once White House officials were informed about CNN’s pending report, Beattie reportedly was confronted and urged to step down immediately. But he apparently refused to resign, arguing that he was not racist and that he had made uncontroversial academic points at the Mencken gathering. When it became clear that Beattie would not resign, the people familiar with the matter said, the White House terminated him.

As usual, the President---who demands loyalty and NDAs from any and everyone around him---wouldn't stand up for someone else. The article says it is unclear if Trump knew about this...but there are no tweets...no claims of media witch hunt...nothing...just another life in tatters due to its proximity to our toxic President.

You're one pathetic hater. So, when the WH finds out this guy attended a white nationalist conference and fires him, that's a bad thing. I suppose keeping him on would have been a better option for you. Even when Trump's admin does the right thing, it's wrong for you. There's just no damn making you happy. Of course we know that, because you are innately angry and miserable.

He told CNN on Saturday, “In 2016 I attended the Mencken conference in question and delivered a stand-alone, academic talk titled ‘The Intelligentsia and the Right.’ I said nothing objectionable and stand by my remarks completely.”

On Friday night, the White House reportedly told CNN that Beattie had left his job. The spokesman, Hogan Gidley, did not provide any details about when — or why — Beattie left his job. The email to CNN said simply, “Mr. Beattie no longer works at the White House. We don’t comment on personnel matters.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center says that the H.L. Mencken club “has hosted some of America’s most prominent white nationalist ideologues in the past, and serves as a safe space for professors to vent their racist views, something they clearly had to keep quiet during their time in academia.”

Past speakers at the H.L. Mencken conference have included Richard Spencer, a self-described white nationalist.

As far as I know the man stated correctly that his appearance at this conference was perfectly innocent.
Perhaps it was, but if CNN had gotten this news before the firing hey would have used it in a story.
The headline would have been Trump WH has racist speech writer.

Trump got ahead of them, and dismissed this speech writer.
That's the name of that tune.

It's a shame the guy got caught in the shuffle, but he had to go.

CNN was too busy wailing about the poor suspected murderer they hauled away, forcing hs wife to drive herself to the hospital for a previously scheduled C-section. Well..except CNN called the suspected murder with outstanding arrest warrants simply "her husband".

I wouldn't have guessed right away that a club named for "the Sage of Baltimore" would necessarily be racist or anti-Semitic.

I'm presuming that he was that way in private life, since nothing I've read by him says that.

I thought Trump only hired the best people?

Wouldn't you think that would mean they would do some checking of their backgrounds and maybe not have hired him int eh first place?

Or not hired Rob Porter?

Or not hired Manafort?

Or Omoraso?

You can't have it both ways. He can't be a genius for hiring the best people but also a genius for firing them

That's what's incoherent about the original post.

Yes, you can. You hire people for whatever reasons (quality, loyalty, reward, etc.) and then fire them when/if they don't work out (or keep them if they do). That's called smart management. Sports teams do it, the military does it, good corporations do it, on and on. If you're finding this tough to grasp, take a time-out to read a good history of the administration of Barack Obama's favorite President, Abraham Lincoln. You'll find some interesting similarities.

Honestly, if this is what you've got, then you're out of your depth on stuff like this.
