EPA Signs Proposal to Boost Coal Power Plants

The Trump administration signaled Monday it is intent on removing some Obama-era environmental rules by signing a proposal that would soften regulations on coal-burning power plants.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler signed the document that is already facing pushback from environmental groups.

If the new rules go into effect, the regulation of power plants' emissions would largely fall on states rather than federal government rules that industry officials have said raise their costs.

...

President Donald Trump's White House supports the continued use of coal to create energy and has even tried to create more jobs in the industry — an effort that has not been all that fruitful.

The administration's proposal is called the Affordable Clean Energy rule and, according to the Journal, is designed to help revive the coal industry.

About time.

You understand, surely, that LOWERING regulations to those other industries have is not picking winners and losers? You understand, surely, that PLACING THOSE REGULATIONS ON IN THE FIRST PLACE is picking winners and losers?

Surely you can see the obvious?

Do you ever bother to even read the quoted article? You just have your mind already made up about everything despite always being wrong.

Read this a few times and let it sink in

And any proposal outside of a federal subsidy will not work. The rise of Nat. Gas production has already caused coal plants to make up less and less power generation (from 50% to 30% in 10 years). Natural gas hit $16 per MWh last year, compared to $22 per MWh using coal. Even international use of coal is dropping, leaving exports in a deficit.

FERC denied Rick Perry's attempt to manipulate the market by proposing using FERC's regulatory power to require coal and nuke plats to store 90 days worth of coal at all times.

On the flip side, coal is the only power industry that does NOT get subsidies.

I read it.

This is how they'll do it:

Always good to get the boot of regulation off of the neck of industry, though.

That's a lot of elevators!

The elevator you don't want to work on is the elevator in a big coal burners coal crusher house.
Two of us got caught outside of Paducah, Ky in a crusher house when we didn't know what the whistles ment and a few minutes later guys were washing the coal dust down off the equipment and inside structure with few 3" firehoses. Not anywhere to go when you are on top on the elevator cab. We were black drowned rats when is was over. It was funny later..
.I'm not going to mention how hot they get.
