Liberty High School suspended senior Addison Barnes,18, in January after he refused to change or cover up a shirt that said “Donald J. Trump Border Wall Construction Co." The shirt also contained a quote from Trump: “The wall just got 10 feet taller.”

Barnes wore the shirt to his politics class on a day when immigration was a planned topic. His suspension was set for 10 days.

Barnes got a lawyer and sued the school, claiming his constitutional rights were being infringed. Days later a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order, which meant Barnes could wear the shirt until the matter was finalized in the courts.

"There's not enough to go on here to show that sort of legitimate concern justifying censorship of this core political speech,'' U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman ruled. Barnes' lawyer also argued that "the school can't muffle one side of the immigration debate while allowing one of Barnes' teachers to display a sign in front of a classroom that reads, 'Sanctuary City, Welcome Home,'" Oregon Live reported.

It should have been 50 grand and come out of the pensions of those that suspended him.

Agree it should have been personal, not against the other students. This is very much like police brutality being paid for by other cops, or politician sexual misconduct being paid for by taxpayers. It should be personal, against the offender.

The only reason it should go after the government in any of these cases is if the offender is following clear policy - then the policy is wrong and so are ALL personnel involved.
