It took less than a minute on Wednesday for a protester to be dragged kicking and screaming from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. By the end of the first hour, more than 40 protesters had been removed from the hearing room, most yelling unintelligibly.
By any objective standard the protesters could be considered "hysterical," but don't you dare call them that, according to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) — who did her own share of grandstanding this week — because being called "hysterical" is downright "sexist."
"I think it's a mistake to refer to women who are using their voice to protest a flawed process, to refer to them as 'hysterical.' There's a whole line of discussion and writings on how the word 'hysteria' has been used to talk about women who own their power," Harris claims.
