Trump turns attention to budget cutting after slashing taxes

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump, faced with a budget deficit at a six-year high, on Wednesday told his Cabinet to come up with proposals to cut spending by their agencies by 5 percent, but he suggested the military would be largely spared.

“I’d like you all to come back with a 5 percent cut,” Trump told his Cabinet secretaries at a meeting attended by reporters.

“If you do more than that, we will be very happy. There are some people sitting at the table ... that can really do substantially more,” he said.

“Get rid of the fat. Get rid of the waste.”

What a complete buffoon. He doesn't have one damned clue about what he is doing. Not the first one.

You know that nothing bowing Obama did counts. Right? He was too busy blaming Bush, and now is busy taking credit for what Trump is doing. That is what anti-Americans do. I wonder if Michelle is still proud of her country, or her husband; for that matter. Obama should be deported.

All this is, is misdirection to hide the actual problem. The private central bank known as the Federal Reserve.

The reality is, Obama never campaigned for spending less. Trump, on the other hand, complained about it for years before becoming President. Anyone willing to learn something can go find his tweets.

While a 5% cut across the board, and reduced defense spending is a-okay in my book, the question is will Congress go for it. Will our congressmen and women actually live fiscal conservatism, or is that only a talking point during an election? If not, will voters care enough to hold them accountable or vote along party lines?

I know this is the easy way out for not only yourself, but a handful of other forum members, but ignoring the fact that transporter joined after Obama's presidency and assuming they and tommyjo are one in the same (an acccusation made here many times), one needs to do a simple search to find the truth.

A 5% cut is a small start, but not a-ok in my book.

Dept of Education, HUD, BATF, and many others should be cut by 100%. THAT would be a good start.

A plan to wean the public off of each other's teat by slowly, carefully eliminating Soc Sec, Medicare/Medicaid, food stamps, etc. - THAT would be A-OK in my book.

Transporter admitted he's been here for years. Vrai called him out as being TJ.

I'll ask you again (knowing you can't answer, because it would require independent thought); where would YOU cut the spending to lower the deficit?

Pretty simple. If you don't work for military complex.

U.S. Defense Spending Compared To Other Countries

The United States spends more on national defense than China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, France, United Kingdom, and Japan combined. While the chart above illustrates last year’s defense spending in dollar terms, the United States has historically devoted a larger share of its economy to defense than many of its key allies.

Our TOTAL defense outlay is less than 15% of the total federal budget. Cutting defense is like taking a cup of water out of the Bay.

Without eliminating the majority of entitlement spending, there will be no change in the deficit or the total debt (for the better).

Because a lot of our military spending goes to the defense of many of our key allied countries.
