CNN May Sue White House Over Jim Acosta's Suspended Press Pass

Why does Jim Acosta have the "right" to a press pass.
If they suspended CNN they might have a case, but all CNN has to do is send someone else.
Someone with manners.

What's with all these "legal experts" who don't know ####?

I think they KNOW it can't win - it gets them the attention to the issue, as if whining about it endlessly doesn't already do it.

Why is the White House under any compulsion to allow anyone to come to a press briefing much less even HAVE one?

To me this is like me suing someone for not inviting me to their party.

CNN alleges in its legal action, which has been filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., that Acosta's First and Fifth Amendment rights were being violated with the ban.

Mine are being violated too, then. I'm not allowed in the WH to ask Trump questions either.

CNN claims stripping Acosta of his press pass violates his — and the network's — right to freedom of the press, though CNN has other reporters who maintain permanent press credentials, and Acosta still has the access to the White House that comes as part of being a member of the White House Press Corps. He can also apply for a daily press pass that allows him to attend White House press briefings and ask questions (though it's not clear whether the White House press team would approve it).

The network also claims Acosta's Fifth Amendment rights were violated. The Fifth Amendment protects American citizens from being deprived of life, liberty, or property, by the government, without "due process of law." While this may be the stronger argument, it's not clear that Acosta's permanent press pass was actually his. The White House press office issues permanent passes subject to known regulations, and a violation of those rules has clearly articulated consequences.

“The hard pass is essential in large part because it allows immediate access to White House grounds and its press offices,” CNN’s complaint argues. “ A hard pass thus lets a reporter react to fast-developing, important news stories. Without a hard pass, a reporter may well miss the newsworthy events, particularly including the many notable events that occur with little notice. A hard pass is effectively required to be a White House correspondent for a national news organization such as CNN.”

CNN, who has nearly 50 additional hard pass holders, and Mr. Acosta is no more or less special than any other media outlet or reporter with respect to the First Amendment,” Sanders said in the White House’s official response.

I am sure there plenty of other places Acosta can be a dick head

Well it looks like we have finally reached the point where Fox news is starting to turn on Trump. Even they can see the writing on the wall. Republicants got tax cuts for the richer and to supreme seats and now they will all start to turn their backs on him.

Fox News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential. We intend to file an amicus brief with the U.S. District Court. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized. While we don’t condone the growing antagonistic tone by both the president and the press at recent media avails, we do support a free press, access and open exchanges for the American people,” Fox News President Jay Wallace said in a statement.

CNN still has access.. and Fox News has been liberal owned for what.. 18 months now?? Why do you think this is news?

They ran out all the conservative owners and managers under the guise of "Allegations of Sexual Abuse" and then heard nothing more about it..

Al Jazeera will soon follow up with their reporters from Hamas and ISIS demanding their press passes.

Is this really what you believe? Some variation on the deep state for the government but with Fox news being run by liberals? You can't be this insane, gullible or dumb can you?

Simple question...

Why can't CNN put another one of their reporters in the WH to cover it?

They can. and most likely do have at least on or two other reporters in there.

The point is Trump trying to stifle the free press because he doesn't like the questions Acosta asks and lying about why his pass was revoked and tweeting our a doctored video.
