A Post American world

Wondering how the ignorati feel about the Post American world that Donal Trump, not Barack Obama, is creating?

When Obama was President, there was a picture floating around of him walking with Fareed Zarkaria's book "The Post American World". All the ignorati were up in arms about Obama's un-American tendencies and his desire to destroy America's world standing. Naturally, none of the ignorati ever bothered to read the book to understand what the point was (which of course was NOT a how-to destroy American, but how America can deal with a rising China, India, etc). That is what Russian operatives like Comrade GURPS count on...your stupidity, gullibility and laziness.

Obama didn't destroy our world position....but Trump is. Trump is working feverishly to create a post-American world.

Every treaty or agreement that he hears about on Fox "News" or infowars, he tears up...we walked away from the economic opportunity that is Asia, he is doing everything he can to destroy our relationships with our longest and closest allies, he demurs to Russia, and he is increasing tensions in the Middle East.

At this point, the world knows the United States of America of today is not the United States of America of the past.

Everyday, this inept, incompetent, unfit and increasing unstable President weakens this country.

As you all say, you get the govt you voted for.

"This is not a book about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else." So begins Fareed Zakaria's important new work on the era we are now entering.

Indeed ... :yahoo: Keep on Mr Trump

here chew on a couple of ACTUAL Quotes about the book

http://books.wwnorton.com/books/detail.aspx?ID=6048

"This is not a book about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else." So begins Fareed Zakaria's important new work on the era we are now entering.

http://books.wwnorton.com/books/978-0-393-08180-0/

The 2008 financial crisis turned the world upside down, stalling the United States and other advanced economies. Meanwhile emerging markets have surged ahead, coupling their economic growth with pride, nationalism, and a determination to shape their own future.

https://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/11/books/review/Joffe-t.html

Yet Zakaria’s is not another exercise in declinism. His point is not the demise of Gulliver, but the “rise of the rest.” After all, how can this giant follow Rome and Britain onto the dust heap of empire if it can prosecute two wars at once without much notice at home? The granddaughters of those millions of Rosie the Riveters who kept the World War II economy going are off to the mall today; if they don’t shop till they drop, it’s because of recession, not rationing.

The real problem, Zakaria argues, is the rise of China, trailed by India. China’s is indeed the most incredible success story in history — a tale of almost 30 years of growth in the 7-to-10-percent range that seems to defy the laws of economic gravity. The United States, Germany and Japan had similar tales to tell in the late 19th century, but bust was the price of boom, and for Germany as well as Japan (add Russia, too), headlong industrialization ended in the horrors of 20th-century totalitarianism.

But for China it’s up, up and away. As Zakaria memorably puts it, “China today exports in a single day more than it exported in all of 1978.” Authoritarian modernization just hums along. The Party’s message reads “Enrich yourselves, but leave the driving to us,” and most of 1.3 billion Chinese seem happy to comply — and to consume. With power safely lodged in the Politburo, China does not conform to the historical pattern of “first rich, then rowdy,” which led to Tokyo’s and Berlin’s imperialist careers.

For sure. How many Islamic terrorist attacks have happened on US soil since Trump took office? Under Barry we were having one every week or so.

Here is a perfect example of what I wrote about yesterday. Transporter knows Trump has the high ground here so he/she/xe goes full-on "fact-check."

There's no appeal to emotion here, just an assertion ("Obama's treaties good, Trump's reconsidering these treaties bad") stated as fact.

Don't let the tone (ad hominem) fool you to thinking this is the "same ole same ole." This is Trannie having to be on the defensive.

Correlation = causation?

Maybe, maybe not.

But your question misses the mark. If it was "correlation = causation" and it made people feel worse it wouldn't matter. Likewise, the opposite is true.

There's a "thing" in psychology that says we all have a little storyteller who sets on our shoulders and tells us the story that makes us feel better (about ourselves, our choices, the world around us, etc.). Similar to what Scott Adams (@ScottAdamsSays, Dilbert creator) means when he talks about "Two movies."

So every politician/salesperson/date speaks in a way that often has little to do with reality, true causation (if it even can be determined), fact, etc. Instead, they "spin" in a way that they hope will capture you in their storytelling webs.

How so?

CPUSA (and Hijinx) apparently think that short term economic downturns are due to Democrats winning some mid terms seats who aren't even in office yet.

In what universe is that even remotely an accurate statement by them? If I said murders are up and so are ice cream sales, that doesn't mean more ice cream = more murders.

Again, that's not the point. What is the point is that if people are primed to want to believe there is a relationship between ice cream and murders (either way) they will (depending on how they want the story to end). Hence, your example: the stock market; notoriously fickle to these reactions (and often in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary). So CPUSA and Hijinx could be correct: the stock market may very well be reacting to the upcoming new Congress.

It's why we find comfort in the herd mentality, the lemming instinct, the echo chamber: we want reassurance that the way we tell the story is actually reflective of reality.... The .com bubble, the 2008 housing bubble, etc. The list goes on; they're all examples of this.

As a therapist you continue to see clients who continue to do things that work against their better self-interests because - in the face of overwhelming evidence - they refuse to change. Why? Because correlation/causation doesn't matter; it's what you want the correlation/causation to be that matters. BTW, that's why it takes courage to go to therapy and stick with it: no more cover from the herd, being a lemming, living in an echo chamber.

Anyway, enough rambling. Some thoughts that may or may not answer the mail. Hope they do in some form or fashion, but regardless, thanks for your comment.

Why would we read a book from someone with no real World Experience? Sounds like World Politics for Dummies, Author: Dummy-in-Charge
