Personally, I believe that would be Truman.

It would be great to me if they would use the Constitution as a guide instead of their personal beliefs on what is "good for the country". Much on Simpson's list purported to be what Bush was using as a guide are not Constitutionally acceptable uses of the federal government, and would therefore NOT be good for the country, even if Pres Bush thought they're good ideas based on his personal wants.

    Thank you.

Some pundit called HW a "modern founding father". It got so ridiculous that I had to turn off the TV and go on blackout. I get it - when someone dies people come out of the woodwork to attention whore, especially when it's someone famous. But it's annoying when they completely revise history.

Barack Obama spent 8 years blaming Dubya for everything under the sun, and who are the Bushes snubbing and disparaging? Donald Trump. While they're kissing Barry's ass and mooshing up on his Black Panther wife. Most people wouldn't let Bill Clinton within arm's reach of their daughter, but there's the Bush people ...kissing ass and lovey lovey. I see this and wonder how Juanita and Kathleen and Paula and Monica must feel. You all may find this crap heartwarming, but to me it's evidence that they're all a bunch of freaking crooks who don't mean a damn word they say. They're actors playing a role.

"Read my lips" isn't what sunk HW. The American people prove every day they don't remember chit from one second to the next, if they were even paying attention in the first place. What sunk him was his deliberate apathy when the snake oil salesman and his Satan's bride came rolling up. HW allowed that election to be snagged out from under him, and it wouldn't surprise me if he did it on purpose.

How was foisting Bill and Hillary Clinton on us "good for the country"? That's a real question, because in my mind THAT is HW's legacy - he gave us the Clintons.

I've been entertained most by the hypocritical personalities that were actually in the media at the time of H.W.

They now lavish him with their "praise and respect" when "THEY" were actively disparaging him on live television EVERY night in 1992.

And I read some of the stories about their daughter, Robin, and how he reacted when he was around other children who were faced with similar struggle - glad he's at peace now!

I know other folks may have different views, but President Bush the elder was my Commander in Chief for a little over 1/3 of my time in uniform (USAF Reserve), the balance was under President Reagan.

I'm sitting here watching the service from Houston, tears rolling down my cheeks.
    Take care - Steven

To me, for all of Trump's faults and poor presentation skills from the perspective of "statesman-like conduct", this is his biggest strength. I don't believe I am the first to suggest that his disdain for party and status-quo is a great reason he is hated by so many, and loved by the voting populace.

However, this thread is not and should not be about Trump (good or bad). In terms of Bush 41's legacy, I agree that giving us the Clintons is a huge part of it, but I think he (even though he was head of CIA) was outmaneuvered. The Clintons ensured the portion of the vote that would be from people thinking they were voting "conservative" was split between Bush and Perot, giving Clinton a win with just over 40% of the popular vote (I don't remember the left screaming Clinton was illegitimate because he came nowhere near 50% of the "popular" vote). He should not have allowed himself to be outmaneuvered, but that was what happened, in my view.

Was he? I have doubted that for awhile now. I think it went according to plan.

What does it say about the head of our international intelligence agency and sitting President that he was outfoxed by two grifters from Arkansas? Am I really supposed to believe that?

You made some good points. I too cannot understand why the Bush's are so kissy face with Obama and Bill Clinton.
I more or less laid some of it to the fact that Trump beat Jeb.
I lost a lot of respect for them for this. Even Barbara went along with it.

One thing I question is when Bill Clinton screwed over the Haitians and Bush was in that deal with him,was why Bubba got all the blame.
If I had been in with someone and they screwed over a nation of people I sure would not be friendly with him any more.
Sure someone else know a lot more about it than me, Hope they clue me in
