Nebraska principal reportedly bans candy canes, says 'J shape' stands for Jesus

An elementary school principal in Nebraska was placed on leave after telling teachers to avoid decorating their classrooms with Christmas-themed ornamentations so as not to offend those who don't celebrate the holiday.

The principal at Manchester Elementary School, identified by Fox affiliate KPTM as Jennifer Sinclair, sent out a memo earlier this week with guidelines as to what is considered appropriate for classroom decorations and assignments.

Don't know if it's really true but I remember being told as a kid that the candy cane was supposed to be reminiscent of a shepherds crook.

I've read many accounts of how they came to be - including one that explicitly says the shape is intended also as a "J" for Jesus -

but the problem with the origin stories is, they conflict. Some have them originating in Germany - others, in Indiana - and most of them
the inventor does not have a name, which is usually a red flag for "urban legend". So it's doubtful that the many origin stories are
factual at all.

Sinclair was placed on administrative leave as of Thursday morning.

Whew! Finally one of these wackos gets removed from the school. Usually it's someone objecting to the Christmas Nazis who gets sat out.

The teacher doesn't need jail she needs a mental health facility.

As for the Candy Canes---iT's Christmas---You know---CHRISTmas ---Jesus.
Why do people worry about mental defectives being offended by CHRISTmas.

The principal is correct.
.In Indiana, a candy maker wanted to make a candy that could be a reminder of Jesus Christ, so he made the Christmas candy cane. He started off with a stick of pure white hard candy. The white color symbolized the virgin birth and the sinless nature of Jesus, and the hard candy symbolized the solid rock which was the foundation of the church, and firmness of the promises of God.

The candy maker made the candy in the form of a J, which represented the name of Jesus and the staff of the Good Shepherds. He then stained it with three stripes which showed the scourging Jesus received, and symbolized the blood shed by Christ on the cross. When you break the cane, it reminds us that Jesus' body was broken for us. [\QUOTE]
