Pence aide out of running to be Trump’s next chief of staff

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s top pick to replace chief of staff John Kelly, Nick Ayers, is no longer expected to fill the role.

Ayers, who is chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, was seen as the favorite for the job when Trump announced Saturday that Kelly would leave around year’s end. But a White House official said Sunday that Trump and Ayers could not reach agreement on Ayers’ length of service and that he would instead assist the president from outside the administration.

yers confirmed the decision in a tweet Sunday, thanking Trump and Pence for giving him the opportunity to work in the White House. “I will be departing at the end of the year but will work with the #MAGA team to advance the cause,” he said.

It was not immediately clear whether Trump had a new favorite for the post. The official was not authorized to discuss the personnel issue by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Ayers and Trump had discussed the job for months. The new hire was to be key to a West Wing reshuffling to shift focus toward the 2020 re-election campaign and the challenge of governing with Democrats in control of the House.

Trump wants his next chief of staff to hold the job through the 2020 election, the official said. Ayers, who has young triplets, had long planned to leave the administration at the end of the year, and had only agreed to serve in an interim basis through next spring.

Ayers will run a pro-Trump super PAC, according to a person familiar with his plans who was not authorized to discuss them by name.

Trump said Saturday that he expected to announce a replacement for Kelly in a day or two.

It goes on from there...who in their right mind would serve as Chief of Staff to someone as inept, incompetent and so wholly unfit? Trump is challenged intellectually and morally. He doesn't understand how the govt works, he can't lead, he can't manage, christ, he can't hold onto a policy position for more than a few days at best. His tweets do nothing but confirm the childlike mind he possesses.

A 4 star general couldn't control Trump or get him to act Presidential...who the hell can?

You’ll receive crickets to things like this that show what a hostile work environment Trump has made the White House.

Stick to talking about scary brown people and you’ll get pages of inanity

It is not about crickets. It is about people like me who are conservative that get sick of seeing and replying to crap from communists. It is about that the opposing party (Dems) never get prosecuted and punished. There is something to that. Y’all’s lobotomies were a success. Congrats. That is why Trump is prez. Be careful what y’all wish for.

Funny that I am watching a doc right now on Ted Ked and Chappaquiddick.

Don't do any research, we will do it for you. Ayers has triplets and has long stated he would be leaving. He had no desire to be in the position long term. I admire him for his decision.

White House aides told USA TODAY that Trump and Ayers had discussed Ayers taking the job but could not agree on how long he would serve in the role. Ayers, 36, has a young family – which includes 6-year-old triplets – and did not want to make a long-term commitment to the grueling job, the officials said.

Then why was he trumps #1 seed? And now that his kids are school age he needs to take off to spend more time with them?

I know it is a foreign concept to many but some baby daddy's actually participate in their children's lives. Things would be much better in certain socio groups if they did the same instead of the breed 'em and leave 'em mentality.

From kidscount.org: "Kids are less likely to experience poverty when they grow up with both parents at home. For example: In 2016, 32% of single-parent families with children were living in poverty versus just 7% of two-parent families.
The literature documenting the detrimental effects of growing up poor is sweeping and strong. Some of the many challenges identified include: academic deficits, reduced access to safe communities and quality enrichment activities, and a heightened risk of physical, behavioral and emotional issues."

The prog media "reports" on every administration change like it's unprecedented. Do you mindless types really think no other President besides Trump has ever had personnel changes? Do you think that no other President has had someone decline a position?

They put these non-stories out for you all to snap at like rabid dogs, and you don't disappoint them. It said specifically:

Trump wants his next chief of staff to hold the job through the 2020 election, the official said. Ayers, who has young triplets, had long planned to leave the administration at the end of the year, and had only agreed to serve in an interim basis through next spring.

And *still* you zombots say stupid things like
who in their right mind would serve as Chief of Staff to someone as inept, incompetent and so wholly unfit?
and
You’ll receive crickets to things like this that show what a hostile work environment Trump has made the White House.
and
Funny he didn’t decide to step down until DJT wanted him to wrk directly for him.

So his kids were so important that he decided to work through the years when they were at home and take off to spend time with them while they are busy in school?

There is a serious hole in that theory

Why is this hard for you?

Being Donald Trump's, YOUR president, Chief of Staff would take up virtually all of his waking time. His previous positions did not. How hard is that to figure out?

IMO this is what happens when constant attacks , harassment, and BULLSH!T investigations go on endlessly by a party which is seeking to topple and overthrow a legitimately elected President.
The Unites States or America is becoming a third world nation right under our eyes, thanks to the efforts of the Democrat party and too many people are so stupid they see it happening and stand by watching.
The Republican party is as much at fault as the Democrats as they are letting it happen.

I thought the current ‘reason’ he wasn’t taking the job was because he was already going to leave his current job because it took him away from his family.....
