The 753-square mile county is home to a no-nonsense Sheriff’s Office, staunchly conservative politics and -at least in the case of one local jeweler- people who don’t take kindly to being robbed.
57-year-old jewelry store owner Michael Dacey responded to a theft at his Jensen Beach establishment by firing upon a jewelry thief who threatened to kill one of the store owners and ran off with over $2,550 in rings.
Pushing an employee over in an attempt to make off with the rings, 17-year-old Jakeem McMillian leapt into the passenger seat of a stolen SUV and attempted to take off. One individual attempted to stop them, and appeared to have been dragged a short distance by the vehicle.
