Shutdown bites economy,
The Trump administration had initially estimated the shutdown would cost the economy 0.1 percentage point in growth every two weeks that employees were without pay.

But on Tuesday, there was an updated figure: 0.13 percentage point every week because of the impact of work left undone by 380,000 furloughed employees as well as work left aside by federal contractors, a White House official said.

For those who can't read or can't comprehend what this means....

The US economy is already slowing coming into 2019. The President of the United States is consciously choosing to reduce economic growth....he is consciously choosing to hurt large numbers of average American households.

And why is he choosing to do this? Because he wants to build a <<insert today's PC term here>>...a <<insert today's PC term here>> that the majority of those same average American households don't want and don't consider a pressing issue facing this country.

MAGA...or something...

Tell me again what he's vetoed.... We know the House passed a bill with the desired money in it, but Schumer wouldn't give votes in the Senate to end cloture. Then, in comes Pelosi's House, and they won't even pass a bill with the money in it, because the border barrier/wall is a "waste of money". Seems Pelosi's House and Schumer are wasting more money waiting for Trump to cave so they can enjoy a political victory while causing human suffering in their citizens. But, hey, that's just factual reasoning...you keep on with your emotional (factless) reasoning.

And why is he choosing to do this? Because he wants to build a <<insert today's PC term here>>...a <<insert today's PC term here>> that the majority of those same average American households don't want and don't consider a pressing issue facing this country.

Can you show me the poll that demonstrates your oft-repeated but completely invalidated claim that the "average American households don't want" border security? NO? Imagine that.

Fund the wall and the government will open like magic.

Trump called a meeting yesterday to try and hash things out and the Dems didn't even show up. So yeah, you can plainly see they care about the American people.

Yes, I can see where the problems are....
“Senator Joe Manchin, a Democratic participant, said: “Anything can be part of the negotiations” Anything that the Democrats want, not literally.
“Speaking on CNBC, Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL.N) Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian said the partial shutdown would cost the airline $25 million in lost revenue in January because fewer government contractors are traveling.”

We have a president who:
shows no empathy for those affected by his shutdown.
lies every time he opens his mouth.
is under investigation for God knows how many crimes, violations, etc.
You must be so proud.

With any luck this will only be temporary as those furloughed figure out they are non-essential and seek private sector employment where they can actually generate wealth rather than siphon it off.

I think this has been the plan all along.

This is how you play 4D chess and #MAGA!!!

So this is what we've come to. Treating the government workers as pawns in a game. This is not what America is about. This is selfishness and anger and unwarranted fear.

True. Pelosi should simply pass the budget passed by the House in December, Schumer should get Democrats in the Senate to sign on to it, and this could all be over.

You are right that it is shameful Pelosi went to HI for a spa treatment and other Dems are vacationing in Puerto Rico on lobbyists' payments while American workers are being used as pawns by them.

Given the crimes committed by illegal immigrants are 100% preventable by not having them here, and that the majority of illegal immigrants are here by illegally crossing the border (there's a HUGE problem with visa overstays, but they make up a large portion - not the majority of the problem), how is it "unwarranted fear" to take some actions, including a barrier to limit illegal border crossing?
