What makes a good landscaper?

My husband and I just moved to Southern Maryland and inherited some unruly and high maintenece gardens.  Does anyone know a good landscaper in the area?  What should we look out for?  What should we ask for in a landscaper?

No doubt you have gotten on with your landscaping dilemnas by now but thought I'd reply just the same. Unfortunately I just discovered the forums after recently moving to the area. We had Wentworth Gardens come and design a total landscape for us and despite the fact that their price seems a bit high for most people we are planning on having them do the work. what i was driving at is it is relatively inexpensive to have them design a landscape for you ( about $150.00 for us) and you can use the plans and do the work yourself. Just my two cents worth, happy gardening:smile:
